Yes, I'm tempted although I'm wondering if the life-cycle has been met and if a refresh or updated modle is in the wings for 2012. Any insight or rumors is appreciated.

I have been told (by a questionable source) that Uniden have stopped making the 396xt & 996xt.
If true, I hope there is another model coming to replace it for those of us not keen on the HP-1.

In the thread you were referring to, someone took your ambiguous use of 396/996 to mean the original BCD396T and BCD996T, which were discontinued when the BCD396XT and BCD996XT were released. These latter two models are still in production.
