On the way into work...about 9am....I was picking up TG 15201 - Stone Co. OEM.

There was talk of a search for a bank robbery suspect (?) and a search of a school with bomb-sniffing dogs. Sounded as if it was possibly Mountain View. Bomb dogs were from Independence Co. & Heber Springs. The OEM was also waiting to make a decision on calling in a helicopter as well.

Anyone know of a drill or ADEM exercise going on in that area? Nothing on their schedule.

 The most curious thing was that I was picking this traffic up on Troop D towers......heard traffic from Wynne (Cross Co.) all the way to Memphis......good signal strength too.

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Stone County authorities are investigating the robbery of the First Service Bank in Mountain View and bomb threats at three Stone County schools this morning.

Early reports indicate that a lone man (unknown if he was armed) entered the bank at 410 Sylamore Ave. (Highway 5 North) across from Wal-Mart around 8:45 a.m. and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspected robber is currently described as a skinny white man, 6 feet tall, long blond hair and wearing a red shirt over a gray shirt, and a ball cap.

It is believed the man left the area of the bank driving an older (1986-87) white Chevrolet pickup and authorities from Stone and Independence counties have been alerted to be on the lookout for it.

Authorities also said that about the time of the robbery, Mountain View, Timbo and Rural Special schools received bomb threats.

It is not known if the threats were related to the robbery as a diversion or were separate incidents.

Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy John Carroll and his K-9 partner, Nick, responded to Stone County to assist authorities at the schools, according to Chief Deputy Steve Jeffery.

At press time, Stone County authorities, assisted by the Arkansas State Police and Independence County officers, were conducting a search for the suspect and his vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding either the robbery or bomb threats should call the Stone County Sheriff’s Office at (870) 269-3825.
