To give a little background on this, as of last year several agencies in Marshall County were given 800mHz portables through the grant. Each rural police department was given 2 radios and each rural fire and EMS department was given 1. The radios see limited use today. Plymouth Fire and EMS use a FG talkgroup for admin traffic occasionally and the County Police use B-MA1 for "hot call" dispatches and their DISP talkgroup as a car to car channel. I use my 800 portable on the regional mutual aid talkgroup (B-MA1) when I'm out of the car as my VHF portable is lacking in some areas due to poor coverage. Word on the street is when the new jail is completed (Nov 07) the county will attempt to move to 800mHz. However, Plymouth police will not be operating on the system nor will Bremen. Both have their own dedicated dispatch centers. The agencies the county are responsible for dispatching (Argos, Bourbon, Culver, Lapaz) will only have the portable radios as without adequate funding mobile radios will not be purchased. It is my understanding that unless all county agencies and surrounding counties move to 800mHz we will not abandon our VHF freqs. Hope this helps as I'm wrapping up a midnight shift and my thoughts are a little rambled. :)

Nice news story though!
