Heard some chatter on SAFE-T that they needed to get Encryption installed on their base radio and until then the person in dispatch would have to "listen to both radios"...

Yes on the VA PD UHF they are going encrypted. They will be clear when on MESA talking to IMPD, and on SAFE-T. Joining the rest of Federal LEA's. Unknown yet if the Maintenance Repeater is going E also or just VA PD. ALL Federal LEA's are going encrypted nationwide as fast as they can get P25 radio systems, and those already P25 will be updating to E. Some like USFS, and NPS are slower than others, but it is happening. (Some NPS already are E, but they have been slow to get the ball rolling.) Sad but that is how it is. (The 800 MHz APX's they use have both SAFE-T and MESA in them just like everyone else around here has.) One thing I find odd, is that they talk to IMPD on MESA, but don't talk to MCSO Eskenazi Patrol, IUPD, or IUH PD on it. To deal with IUPD, IUH PD, or EP, they have dispatch call on phone, unless those agencies come up on MET-CD1/2/3. or go to MET-CW
