Will this antenna from C. Crane work as advertised? I'm needing just a little more reception for a handheld in an office area by a window. I currently use the 800mhz Radio Shack antenna.
At that length, I doubt it would help your 800Mhz at all. Suspect it would be be worse, if anything. Vhf-high might be better, but that's about it. It would probably home in on the interference from the fluorescent lights like a Sidewinder missile.

800 MHz Max antennas

I have always wondered if this was any better than the RS 800 mhz antenna?

Jeffrey-
My own experience is that they're almost equal. I own both the RS 800 and the Max Systems 800, and love them both. I'd give a slight edge to the Max Systems for pulling in distant 800 MHz systems, and it's my only indoor 800 MHz antenna. But I like the RS antenna when I'm using my handheld, and at half the price, it hard to beat.

Have a great 4th!

Regards,
