Indy 500 more than just racing

Don't forget 118.675 AM (killer) for the flyby/track control tower and 155.160 FM if Lifeline has to take anyone to Methodist. Keep the 118.675 for the Brickyard and the Kroger events at IRP later this year.

Since ISP are traffic control a digital scanner is a huge plus.

I'm sure N500PD ( MD500NOTAR) will be up and that is MECA1 MOT TYPE II IPD flies it but county and state will use it if needed.

Today I had a weak feed on 454.000 and much stronger feed plus driver interviews (and the interview coordination) on 455.8375
while I was at work about 5 miles away. They cut off just a bit after 1400 local (not UTC) after announcing the Sirius feed was going up.

what's the estimated range on the team radios? I'm going to be on the south side on race day and wasn't sure if I would be able to listen in at all.

No way. I'd guess maybe a 1/2 mile outside the track due to the stands. Speedway (the city) residents with a beam pointed at the track might have better results but I'd guess still not so good. I'm guessing 1-5 watts max.

I'l get as close to the track as I can today and listen in my truck to what I can.

I'll have a 2052, 2045 and 2006 fed by the RS magnetic scanner ant. that has been permanetly mounted (no mag ) on the truck and fed with 6' of LMR400. I have had concerns about this antenna in the 400MHZ range so this should be a good indicator if it is as deaf as I think it is.

I'll try to get something and drive away to see the range.

Unfortunately my schedule got buggered. I had an auction on ebay to win that did not end until 1500 and then I had to repair my bicycle computer before my ride

I'm at work now and just heard the crash on 855.8375 but was not able to do the range testing of the team radios.

Perhaps someone in the Coke field can report if they heard things that far outside the track.

Since nobody had a Pro-95 file, I worked on making my own from what I know to be the most recently update frequencies I have. I also made a file for my Pro-79.

The Pro-95 file is using the Win-95 software - http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/win95/default.asp
The Pro-79 file is using the ProLink software - http://www.antistatic.org/prolink/

Both are free and may support additional scanners.

Please feel free to update or make corrections and share.

I used to live at 1300 N Meridian St in the late 80's on the 7th floor facing the Speedway and I could get reception using a regular "rubber duck" antenna. It was fun.

I was at the track today also. Do you know if there are any channels that have only the ABC announcers and do not have the TV directors talking over them? It was quite annoying to be listening to what they were talking about, only to hear "Jaime's next, 10, 9..." over top of them.

No, I suspect the only way to get that is with a live TV feed which isn't available in Indianapolis.

Well, I usually don't go to the 500 or Brick but this year a racing buddy turned me on to a QQ in turn three.
Soooo, here is one is one of my best secrets for those not going or willing to show up late.....at 21st and Girlschool there is a church parking lot that is directly west of the track.
The flyover goes N to S and you can see the whole thing plus whomever is orbiting.
If you get really lucky, it will be a Stealth and they are based in MO so when they depart they are given a west departure right over this parking lot. With binoculars, you can see the yellow markings on the composite panels. Cool callsign like Death 1.
The flyover is coordinated with the singing of the National Anthem and they will circle or extend legs as needed to be as close as possible. Two years they have made the N to S and then a left turn east bound for an E to W departure, again going over the track.
Have fun!!
Oh yeah, don't forget our time change this year!!
