Just got a Pro 95 and the folks at Radio Shack in Westfield claim that Indy and Carmel are going digital around the first of '05. Any truth to this? I searched through this forum and did not find a definite answer. Also, any word on Tipton or Howard counties?

Thanks!

So, is Marion County joining SAFE-T or will they be using their own digital network independent of SAFE-T?

Just to be safe,I'd buy the pro96. Eventually most emergency comm will go to digital. You will also be able to recieve state police(already digital in your area). It is a pricey radio, but I'd look on e-bay first,or wait for it to go on-sale.

They are upgrading the enitre MECA system to digital, it will not be a part of SAFE-T. The equipment is suppose to arive in early '05..When it will actually switch is unkown at this time. I would expect not to long after the equipment is there. Check out the MECA system in the database for more details.

Kevindy is right though, If you want to hear the state police you will need a digital scanner anyhow...Might as well buy one if you want to listen, eventually just about everyone will be digital.

Here's one for kev and scanner freak. I used to be on wayne what ever happened to their edacs system i know they are on meca now. Meca used to have problems when i was on it was scratchy in a lot of areas. haven't been down there in a long time with a scanner. used to have one but there was no way to listen to them anyway at the time due to the trunking scanner technology at the time. Had to listen to those damn beeps on the channels what a pain. BY THE WAY GO PEYTON.

Well, since Carmel is part of Hamilton County's EDACS system, I would assume that all of Hamilton County would go digital. Then again, it wouldn't surprise me to see only Carmel going digital. Carmel is...well Carmel. Carmel has their own police and fire dispatchers, the rest of Hamilton County's police and fire departments are dispatched out of Noblesville.

I live in Wayne Township, and never could understand why they had to jump the gun and go with the EDACs system before MECA came up, I'm sure politics played a part.... Anyway, I can tell you that the EDACs system is long gone, at least it's not on the air any longer. What happened to the equipment, I don't know.

chief lamb went ahead and put in the edacs system before they all could get the meca system going accordin to my wtfd history book. the system was built before they bought their current headquarters and 701 n. high school road. it went online when they moved into it and had operability to meca via patched talkgroups normally used to be on group 17 and 18. i did find out what happened to their system new london technologies bought it. their 800 frequencies are no longer listed as some people have looked for them. politics was the answer as you stated i am sure. but you know how they did things down there they did them to show who had the money and who was best. I still think that they were fine with edacs but meca probably is going to leap into the new milennium with digital equip. anyways thank for the reply :D

Actually, Carmel has their own dispatching.done out of the old police station in the old downtown district....Westfield and Noblesville are dispatched by Noblesville out of the NPD building downtown Noblesville...and everyone else in the county is dispatched by the county, out of the Jail. Rumors are flying that Fishers is looking at doing it's own dispatching in the future as well.

I grew up in Carmel back in the days when you could actully still find FARMS in the city limits, and CPD was on 155.46 VHF and all the fire departments in the county were on 154.010 simplex. How things change.

Hamilton County Going Digital?

If Hamilton County goes digital, our scanners will be useless as there is no way to monitor EDACS digital! They've spent enough money already taking care of the poor coverage problems!

The Sheriff did mention that some "software changes" are going to be implemented to take care of some persisting coverage problems in the northeast part of the county. Whether that means going digital or not I don't know. Going digital usually means less coverage, not more. Zionsville did not want to go with SAFE-T because they could not guarantee complete coverage.

If they do go digital, I hope they switch to Motorola but I don't see that happening.

Allen County in northern Indiana is already mostly on the 800Mhz digital now. we should be fully digital by the first of '06, that includes the county fire departments.
