Info for newb

I am new to scanners. Is there a sticky or a post that has general information for Newbies. I am running across different things and jargon that I do not know what they mean.

BTW the one that made me think of asking this question BM PL.

Here is the info I found. I know the frequency. I know the description and fm.
166.27500 BM 127.3 PL Tribal Police FM

BM refers to the type of station- Base and Mobiles
PL refers to the CTCSS tone in use on that frequency, and a CDCSS tone would appear as such- D411.

I appreciate the comments and understand the value of Google. A newbie like myself searching Google all day with the different things I don't understand may or may not add knowledge. Someone who has been there and wore out the T-shirt putting a FAQ together would probably save alot of redundant questions.

I'm new to trunking. I've leen listening for about 2 years and started with a Uniden BCT7 scanner. I read through that FAQ that crayon posted. It helped me to understand what CTCSS is, but I still don't understand the real need for why people need to know this information.[/i]
