Hi, I am new to this forum. I have done alot of reading and am enjoying it. I use a BC898T and a recetly aquired BCD 996T. About 2 years ago Medicine Hat City Police voulentarily changed to the ACPO 25 system. Not sure if it's encrypted. Their fequency is 866.5500 . I cannot seem to find any info on their system anywhere I have looked. All I get is a high pitch squeal when they transmit. Tried tweaking the scanner, can't get any voice. I was hopping their would be some type of comm. map table somewhere or something to set me in the right direction. I would appreciate any advice or info .... thanks in adavce.

I dont know too much about the scanner you have but the info in the data base is correct for all 3 channels the police dept use. Channel 3 is encrypted but not all of the time. I have a pro96 and can hear them just fine. I am guessing you need to change a setting and you will be up and running.

Check out page 52. Not sure if you tried this or not.

update

ok, what I did is saw a 067.0 show up in the log, I entered it into the "tone" and now I have good clear audio. The p25 indicator show up. My next stepwill be to search the system to get a fleet map. Thanks Tom. You in the same area?

You have a 67.0 tone and P25? I'm not so sure that is supposed to be able to happen.

I don't spend any time in the Hat myself (I'm west of Calgary) but I might be convinced to do a road trip someday once/if the snow clears, i.e. month or two.

I think Unitrunker displays NACs on P25 conventional channels.. it would be interesting to see if it shows anything besides the default '293' for MHPD.

Medicine Hat on true APCO-25?

no matter what I do, can only receive MHCP in conventional mode. If I try MOT1 or MOT2, or any other, cannot get them. Their on digital, but appears not to be the full blown APCO-25

My investigations in the past have shown me their using only individual non-trunked channels down there. I'm not sure about the difficuly your having with hearing voice though, as when I went there I had success with both my BC785D then later with my 396T as well.

If there's no steady control channel noise, they won't be trunked. "true" P25 doesn't need trunking; it just has to be of that particular digital flavor of audio, IIRC.

If one or more of you down that way have any tapped radios, it would be a major coup to let Unitrunker have a couple passes and see what it can pick up.

To elaborate: A single P25 "conventional" channel can actually have multiple "talkgroups" depending on what NAC is used. NAC stands for Network Access Code and is essentially the digital version of a CTCSS/DCS code. I believe (but I'm not 100% certain) that Unitrunker can decode NACs on conventional channels.

I just realized I have a fairly easy way to find out, though. ;) I'll explain more later if it's needed.

They are not trunked. Putting in the single freq. works fine for me. As for the 898, I have a bunch of non digital scanners that I just keep around to monitor everything else. I mainly monitor the city police and fire on the digital scanner. I have so many non digtal units that I have spent money on I cant get rid of them.

What do you monitor KOke?

I cant help you there. I have a pro-96. This is my first digital scanner. I didnt have much luck when I bought it. I ended up exchanging it several times. The first radio had no display, the second had no audio and so far the 3rd one is working good. I made several trips to Havre to exchange it. Where have you been buying your scanners?
