Information needed for programming?

I have never programmed any radios (closest I've programmed is a Minitor V pager), so I am not sure what is all needed for programming.

Looking at a radio for in my car for a while, was considering just getting a portable, but I found a deal on a CDM750. Obviously it is 4 channels, nothing super complex.

If I want to put a channel in for TX/RX, do I need anything other than the Input Frequency, the Receive Frequency and the PL Code (ie. information I can copy and paste right out of the database)

What about RX only? Do I just need the RX frequency?

The person I am looking at purchasing it from can program it, I just need to figure out what information to give them.

The Waris series of radios (CDMs and HT750/1250/1550) radios are easy to program, once you get a hang of the software. As far as what you need for a basic channel, TX, RX and PL (if required). RX only is easy. Just put in the RX freq and PL and then check the "Receive Only Personality" option for that channel. If you try to key up on the channel, you will get a audible "bonk" and it will keep you from transmitting.

Ok thanks for your help. I am still very new to this. PL codes are getting me confused. There is one PL Code listed in the radio database. Is that the TX or RX PL Code?

I know the channels I want I have in a handheld scanner and they aren't trunked or anything like that. I just type in the frequency and listen. Yet they still have a PL code, so I am assuming that is for TX.

I just want to be able to provide the seller a list of all the options to check/plug in etc so I don't have to pay to have it reprogrammed. I am going to do a little more googling to see what all the options are that may need adjusted so I can tell the seller what to set them to. If anyone else has some input it is greatly appreciated.

It all depends on how the system is set up. Typically, the PL tones listed here in the database are for RX. If the system you are using more than 1 tower with the same freq, it will probably have different TX PL tones for each tower. We have several towers here on the same freq, so we have 1 RX PL tone and several TX PL tones.
