I've been considering purchasing the BCD996P2 scanner.....

Is lthe database stored on a SD micro card like the x36HP line of scanners?

Which software is reccomended for programing?

The database is not stored on a SD Card, have to import what You want.

FreeScan does, and I'm sure there are others.

The 996p2 comes with no data in it. There is no SD card. You have to load anything manually or by paying for a subscription to RR and downloading, system by system.

There is no such thing as a "database", in the same terms as the Home Patrol type radios.

Freescan currently has a beta version of their software for the 996p2.

RonnieUSA and marksmith , thank you for providing answers to my questions regarding the BCD966P2 scanner. I've been considering this receiver since the latest development with the BCD536HP scanners, the display. Although, the P2 scanners don't have the wifi, which I do like, and believe the future expansion of Uniden with a server dedicated to it, will be a big plus for 536's.

I'm really hooked on scanning since the HP series was developed, but now disappointed with the setbacks. I'm sure Uniden will not let us down, at least I hope not!

I've been trying to find the FreeScan 996P2 link for downloading, checked wiki, RR and just a search of internet. Freescan sends you to their forum. No luck! Help Please!
