gpp10x - I struggled with trying to manually program the radio myself (I wanted so badly to learn for myself and figure this thing out) and eventually began to recruit some professional help. I have a connection with Consumers Energy and sent my radio to their "person that knows". Apparently Consumers also uses EDACS so I had high hopes. Long story short, I just bought a cable and win97 so I'm going to spend the evening playing with the tools I should have bought weeks ago.

More than likely, I'll have more questions.....thanks for checking on me!!!

Clarification - You're right

I think his posting said he has 155 FM frequencies programmed NOT 155MHz.

So to answer his question you don't need to set up the scanner in EDACS to hear Ingham county. All you need is any of their frequencies and you will hear exactly what you are hearing bits and pieces.

If you want to listen to the system then you need the frequencies from the database here and you need to enter them in EDACS mode. Then you need to enter the talk groups so you know who you are listening to. The Por 97 tracks this system just fine if you set it up for EDACS. It is not a narrow band EDACS system so there is no issue with the 97.

Yes, you're exactly right. I had the 155 factory set feq's and I was picking up bits and pieces of Ingham County. I just bought a programming cable and win97 so I'm hoping to be fully functional soon.

Thanks for your comments and all of you have been very helpful.

I can e-mail you my Ingham County file for Win97 if you want. It should help accelerate your listening pleasure. I'll have to look at it and see if it is as up to date as my PSR-500 file but it's no big deal to edit a few TG's rather than put in the whole system.

I'm happy to report that I've made tremendous progress. I've invested several hours to get familiar with Win97 and I now have my Ingham County file working very well. I may even turn off a few TG's just to cut down on the activity. If you don't mind, I will take you up on the offer just so I can load your file and compare it to what I've done. Likewise, if you're interested in my file I'll send it your way. I don't have anything special going on with mine however.

Related question....I'm curious to know how ICSO Heavy Rescue get's their tone. I don't see them on the TG's anywhere. Here's a link to their page ->

Any ideas?

They have a set of pager tones on 460.600 just like every other FD.

I'm learning...

I was under the impression that volunteer FD members carry a specific pager for their dept. If their dept is needed, the dispatcher would initiate tones, but the freq would be such that only one dept hears the call. Yes, I understand the purpose of the tone (at least I think I do) but again, I thought there was some segregation. Am I to understand that all FD's would hear a tone from Fire Dispatch on 460.600 and they have to pay attention to hear if it their twp that's being dispatched?

No, I'm saying each FD has their own set of tones. Heavy Rescue has their own set too.

There is an all-call for weather bulletins and the like that sound every pager at once, but otherwise a volunteer's pager is quiet unless his department is getting a call.

I see that Ingham County, wants to erect a new site to their simulcast TRS. The site is slated for 817 W. Holmes Road, in Lansing. More information can be found at the FCC Web site.

Isn't that the one they already added on the southwest side of town last year?

05-003 is a Leslie Event TG.

05-004 heard with Leslie and Mason at a fire training exercise last night.

Also Clinton Co Fire and some police traffic being simulcast on 08-001, 08-041 and 06-041 from time to time. No idea why.

05-004 is the Mason event TG. There were several changes made a month or so ago when the radio system was upgraded to improve out-county coverage that the out county fire chiefs felt was degraded when changes were made to alleiviate problems in the metro area. In addition there are approx 14 (CW) County wide TG's added to the radio's plus more.

Delhi police

I know that Delhi police are part of the sheriff department but wondering if they have their own TG. Don't really want to listen all of the sheriff traffic.

Thanks
