I will make a long story short, I inherited a 2nd 92B from my father---he never liked it much----" too damn complicated", he really only listens to RailRoads. I however love my 92 (have had it over 4 years now), well he gave me his, the problem is that he messed up the DC power jack. I am not all that electronically inclined---and dont want to have Radioshack send it in, unless I really have too. I have put batteries in it, and the backlight comes on, and stays on non-stop. If I turn the volume up I hear faint static. There is NO display (other than the backlight). Anything simple I might try that you guys can think of? Again , great site! And thanks for any help, Mike

The DC power jack needs to be replaced. Unless you know somebody that has access to an electronics bench (That is an easy replacement). Look around town and see if there is an electronics shop that can repair it for you. The DC power jack may be the cause of your display problems also. But, you have to say to yourself is it worth the money that it will take to get repaired. You can send it in to RS repair center and get an estimate of the repairs that are needed.

Thanks for the reply John. I thought about that also, I am not sure if I want to spend say, $100.00 or whatever it might cost----I might as well pickup a 95 (or for that matter a 97) for that kind of money. I was just hoping maybe something I might have overlooked. Do you know if RS has a minimum policy, such as $50.00, just to take a look at it? Thanks again for the help , Mike

I just checked out the RS site, I had never looked at the repair section. There is a $20.00 est. fee and a $49.00 labor fee on all scanners. I guess it wouldnt be too bad if at least got the $20.00 back, but $69.00 plus parts---not real sure if its worth it. I DO like the 92s though! Mike
