Trouble is, the ground stations don't transmit for our benefit! An aircraft that leaves Perth for Mauritius and onwards won't be listening to anything other than his 'primary' or 'secondary' frequency and he will be told by the ground station what frequency they are using. I see there are stations on Cocos and Reunion so the aircraft may just be handed on from one to the other and be using a lower frequency that won't get to you. Perhaps if you look at the greyline on DX Atlas you may be able to pick a time when propagation will be better to your location. Unfortunately propagation is a black art, sometime intuition works best! or the Aussie "SWAG" system - a "scientific wild-a***d guess"! Early morning is good for me to India about 8MHz but unfortunately early morning is about 0430 local time at the moment.Am in Asia so 17961 should be ok I guess

This chart is pretty good but it's supposedly out of date. There is a 2009 version but it's not free!
