Input as a TAC Channel

I was wondering if anyone else had run across a law enforcement agency using their repeater input with a different tone as a TAC channel.

The reason I'm asking is there are 2 local police departments in my area that seem to be using this tactic instead of using any of their "other published" frequencies. It does seem to make since as most people would not bother to listen to the static in and out input channel versus the output. I have even heard Kentucky state Police using this set up in our community and was wondering if anyone else had encountered this?

I have seen this done before but not often because it can cause interference problems on the rx side of the repeater. In my opinion its foolish but it does happen.....

I agree, a bad idea because if two people are jabbering and a third needs to reach dispatch the others may be jamming the repeater input for him.

I can see your point now. But it does seem to happen here in our town especially when there are only 2 or 3 officers working and they are "working" the same call. It seems to me that thier encription system is not up to par just yet (must be that "bubble gum" technician :lol: )

Repeater Outputs are common for TAC channels, either in CSQ or seperate PL tone Modes. But the Input? Yeah, whoever the radio guy is there needs to go back to school for a bit.

Yes, this same topic came up in July and I expressed my opinion on this dangerous situation then.
My opinion has not changed.
