• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just purchased a Spectra mobile that came with no installation instructions for the wiring and I am told the wrong programming software. I purchased the following:

Motorola Spectra Radio T99DX+088W_Astro P25 VHF 110w T04KLH9PW3AN is the radio information. 1MEG 2.5KHz. AZ492FT3773

I received RSS R17.00.00 which caused others to insist that my radio is actually a Astro25. Not according to the serial number and model on the FCC Type ID web site. I'd appreciate clarification if possible.

Others have insisted that I power on the unit and provide the firmware code but they won't confirm the wiring for me. I have a DB25 connector that will plug in under the handle or adjacent to the mini-UHF connector. Which is correct, please? I also have an orange/green wire that have been shorted together and attached to a white wire. Probably the color they had handy. I am assuming that this is the ignition sense and if plugged into the fuse block the radio will power on with the key. If connected to an always on the radio will always stay on (although spikes are always a concern.)

Clarification of both the software needed and the installation would be kind. If the software the commercial vendor sent is wrong I can only ask that they send the correct software. Otherwise I am hosed.

Like others said in your other post, the software you got is not for that radio. As for the wiring, I can't help you, as the only Spectra type radios I own are motorcycle Spectra's, & the wiring is different. Good luck.

The Batlabs image, hra4579 gif IS correct.

I think he has a HHCH radio, the W3 in the model number. HHCH, hand held control head/mic.

The main power Red lead direct to battery. 35 amp fuse. Big Black to ground near the radio mounting.

Green, is Receiver power, direct to battery plus thru a 5 amp fuse.
Orange Ignition sense, thru 2 amp fuse to either battery or IGN switch.

Control cable to 25 pin connector under main battery power jack, left side.

WOW! Thank you guys. That's all I've been looking for. But note that I have a W9 head. I just didn't want to willy-nilly plug into the wrong port and perhaps cook a nice radio. Please also note that I was doing my best not to ask the same question all around but I felt stymied on another site.

The GIF is awesome! It shows clearly the different choices that I have as a mobile installation. I have printed it out. Thank you John for the links and the rest of you for the advice.

I also have purchased two mobile extenders currently on 450MHz that I need to bring down to 440. That's not a problem from what I've read. Re-crystal it and give it a tune-up. But where can I find programming instructions?

I assume that a mobile extender plugs in in between the handle? And has been said the main control cable plugs in just under the power jack? A VRS document discussing programming of the MPL and the stuff I don't know about would be quite helpful. I see it listed but

Thank you! I appreciate all of you.
