• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey all,

I have an '02 Jeep Liberty and I am looking to put my Pro-79 handheld scanner in it. I want to be able to hear my dispatch channels from far away (at least 20 miles) and my pager is not capable of that. Is there a way to get a good antenna to mount on my roof rack or something that is not permanent and does not require any drilling? Also, where should I put the scanner in my Jeep? Is there an easy way to do this?

The other alternative I can do is get some type of mount for the scanner and keep the rubber duckie antenna on it rather than putting a mounted antenna on my car. Will I get pretty good reception with that? Any mount reccomendations? I don't like to drill so what are my options? All I am going to be listening to with this scanner is conventional frequencies in Morris County, NJ. I am keeping my Pro-106 as my base (home scanner) and since I have this Pro-79 scanner laying around my house I figured I might as well use it. :)

Thanks!

Well, if you want to get good reception the best say is with an external antenna. I know some will tell you to permanent mount the antenna and again that will give you the best reception possible. But, you might consider either a disguise antenna (Sti-Co: Custom Antenna Supplier and Manufacturer: Home) or also thinking about a glass mount antenna. I have also heard of some antennas that will mount to a window via a suction cup.

These are a couple ideas for you to consider.

I came to the conclusion that I am just going to keep both my Pro-106 and my Pro-79 in my home and use them as base scanners - makes more sense to me. Thanks so much for your help!
