If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have 2 UHF VX-P924 radios. I am trying to swap an SRX-4 VHF board from one and install it in the other. Does the radio casing have to be removed and how?
Where is the SRX-4 found? Thanks in advance.

I haven't ever touched a p924, but on most of the other Vertexs I've dealt with you just pop the battery out and the option board goes in behind it. There's typically a thin plastic cover that's just held on with adhesive. You'll have to read the radio with the programming software and enable the specific option board you're using. Here's some pics of a 417 I had laying in a junk box.

On these radios the board beneath the battery as you describe is apparently the P25 board.

Does the vhf radio you're taking the option board out of have P25? I ask because I wonder if it's either you can have P25 or the receive option.

Yes both radios have the P25 board and function properly on P25.

The Sub Band receive Board is located inside of the radio if I’m not mistaken underneath the main board. It’s screwed down to the rear portion of the chassis and requires you to undo the flex connectors to the display board and furthermore disassembly of the Bain board from the metal casing. The rear option board like everyone else is describing only holds the VSCM Board for both p25 capabilities and ANY encryption algos if flashed from factory with the proper matching FW and DSP.
