Everything you ever wanted to know about the "Air Tac" planes.
I made a few quick notes.
USFS Region 5 and CDF require 3 FM radios and 3 AM radios in the ATGS planes.
The initial air to air freq on a fire is the "primary". A "secondary air to air" freq can be used for helicopter operations.
Sometimes lead planes will use a discrete freq.
In conditions of poor visibility, a special freq for monitoring aircraft positions and altitude reporting might be placed into operation.
Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) are required to have 2 AM and 1 FM radio. (SEATS have just 1 crewmember IIRC).
