Do Memphis, TN PD & Shelby County Sheriff have ability to
communicate with each other with their current radio systems?
If so, can these communications be heard by the scanning public?

The conventional freqs yes you can hear, and if they have patches on the Shelby Co. EDACS yes you can hear that,... but anything on the Memphis ASTRO VSELP forget it.

There is one channel in the city system that is a patch to the SCSO EDACS system. It is not used often that I know of, and not many people with the city know about it. I just happened across it a couple of years ago.

True, there are patches, but being that the City system is VSELP,.. only a user of the system will be able to hear it. Whereas any patches on the County system would be monitorable unless AEGIS encryption is turned on. Here's to the day that the proposed Motorla Smartzone combined City/County system comes into being... assuming the grants all fall into place, the powers that be all agree to work together, and any other number of things that can go wrong, don't. Then scanner users in Memphis will be happy happy happy. And when the TN DPS system eventually grows out, it'll make things very interesting indeed. Concievably one could, in the future take a say PRO-96, and listen with no issues from the ArkLaTex, clear to the Atlantic. At least on the most traveled routes. **Not including FL of course**

The only patch that I know about is form the city system to the main dispatch channel on the SCSO system.
