• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

As of a few minutes ago, links to purchase both the OBLTR-8R and the TERMN-8R have been removed from the "Purchase AnyTone Tech Radios and Accessories" page on the AnyTone Tech Web site.

It currently says: "Back Online May 27th".

Frank.

Where are you seeing this? The online store under purchase still has the TERMN listed for direct sale, but nothing yet for the OBLTR (lists Amazon but link doesn't work obviously). The other 2 still have links to Amazon.

Thanks Frank. Had to re-load the page twice before it showed up.

I have a feeling someone is keeping a close tab on this thread.

Here is a news flash for you guys. There are more radio users other than FRS/GMRS. The FCC said not to market them to the general public (Part 95 users). They didn't say in anything that I saw to not sell them to Part 90 and Part 97 users (who are licensees, not the "general public").

These radio's are listed as part 95 compliant. They have always been listed that way. So therefore sold to the "general public", the point is moot.

Just so I can come back and tell you I told you so later, my prediction is there is nothing being resubmitted.

Anytone tech will try to continue to sell these until he's cleaned out his stock and that will be the end of the 8R series. In the mean time he will try to buy himself time by posting additional promises and fables on facebook.

I have it on good information that the FCC is trying to get these radios off the market (which may include other brands and models) and the likelihood of any more of these squeaking through the cracks doesn't seem too great now that the OET is aware of what is going on. I would be on the look out for more "Dear Colleagues..." letters.

If any of you are holding your breath for "we are updating our certificates"- (Anytone Tech on facebook), I would recommend having a large supply of oxygen tanks on standby. You're gonna need them.

That's my prediction. If I'm wrong, now you can make me look like the wrong one. On rare occasions I am wrong but that is my prediction.

Oh Well...

That's too bad. It's sad that archaic laws hold back evolution of new technology. Like I've always said, if they can put the kind of technology into I-Phones and Galaxy S-6 phones that they do, there's no reason why a better designed radio with similar features can't be made compliant with the FCC. Sure it may be somewhat more expensive than $150, but I'd pay what I would have to pay for a top shelf ham rig (Kenwood THD72 etc.) for one of these that's acceptable. My go pack would have more room for essentials like better first aid kit, water & food than having to carry 2-3 different radios and accessories for each. Plus there's still confusion possibilities...I know people who carry 2-3 different radios and grabbed the wrong one for a contact by mistake.

You're missing the point. Some things are kept separate for a reason. Consumers who aren't hams or COM-Ls/COM-Ts can cause problems for many including themselves.

Comparing LMR to cellular is just plain silly. The cartels control every aspect of how a device behaves on their network. With LMR/PMR, the user controls all aspects of the device behavior, at least in the case of a programmable radio. Apples to oranges.

All of this is really moot. The FCC rules are as they are. If one doesn't agree, then petition for a rule change. Make a case, maybe you'll get it pushed through, maybe not.

But being a scofflaw and giving the middle finger to the FCC is not a good idea. which is what AnyTone Tech is doing by having continuing to sell radios that the FCC specifically told them to cease and desist. Maybe the FCC will act on that, maybe they won't. But it for sure indicates the lack of ethics on behalf of the company. Your choice if you want to send them money or not.

Well, even with FCC enforcement...these rigs will still be imported and used just like the 10/11 meter radios. As long as there's a demand, someone will be there to fill it. Unfortunately, it's human behavior. Just like cocaine...it's illegal but it's still around.

And believe you me...if you want to talk ethics...the U.S. government has PLENTY of skeletons in their closet as well... including the FCC. They've made plenty of deals that were more money than sense based. Petition to have the rules changed? HA...I can't afford to go up against Motorola/Kenwood legal lobbying teams. They certainly won't want to jeapordize their billions against the Chinese upstarts.

Anyway...as you said...it's moot. I just can't wait to see the HE** raised on here if somehow AnyTone does come back with a legal certification. They'll be a lot of crying by the self appointed radio cops then. As was posted earlier somewhere...I will pop myself a BIG bowl of popcorn and watch the trolls throw their flaming barbs...lol. Anyway enough said by me on this topic. I agree to disagree...politely.

Looking through the FCC rules for the various services I see no reason Anytone Tech will not be successful in obtaining FCC approval for part 90, GMRS and MURS in the same radio. Time will tell but I'm sure they have some $$ invested with Anytone (China) with engineering costs and minimum purchase requirements to have these custom radios made and their not going to just walk away.

I'm also convinced they would have had prior conversations with the FCC on their intents and perused the idea based on achievable goals within FCC guidelines. Just my thoughts but I'll bet you will see new FCC approvals and radios for sale in the near future. And if this happens, I’ll probably sell off some of my Baofeng and Wouxun radios and get a couple of the evil Termn-8r radios. If it’s anything close to the Anytone 3318 I have now it will be a winner.

My final comment on this thread...

This is from a LMR dealers website. It seems to me that if this applies, then there can't be any discrimination from the FCC whether it's Icom, Kenwood, Motorola etc. or Baofeng, Wouxun, Anytone etc.

After all, many GMRS radios are just LMR Part 90 radios with GMRS frequencies programmed in and the keyboard locked.

"Every station in a GMRS system must use transmitters the FCC has certificated for use in the GMRS. Write to any FCC Field Office to find out if a particular transmitter has been certificated for the GMRS. All station equipment in a GMRS system must comply with the technical rules in part 95.

Many interpret that last sentence (our emphasis) to mean that as long as the radio is technically compliant with part 95, it is OK to use even if it wasn't specifically type accepted for it. Under this interpretation, Part 90 accepted UHF business radios would be allowed. (One caveat is scrambling. Some business radios support it but it cannot legally be used on GMRS.)"

Now I'm done.

And none of that negates the legal ramifications of marketing a product that is contraband. Not just the FCC, but they also run the risk of seizure by ICE.

Marijuana is illegal in many states. When someone gets caught selling weed, than they do the time. Doesn't matter what one thinks of the law, if the law is on the books, it's enforceable. If someone chooses to risk it, then the consequences are theirs to pay. all the crying and whining won't get them out of jail. People make choices. Anytone Tech's choice to give the FCC the finger is their choice, their consequence.

And believe you me...if you want to talk ethics...the U.S. government has PLENTY of skeletons in their closet as well... including the FCC.

Two wrongs don't make a right. This straw man response is as juvenile and asinine as a reckless driver who gets stopped for doing 100mph in a school zone and then tries to offer the "well the cops are all crooked" defense.
Prisons are full of people with stories like this.

Petition to have the rules changed? HA...I can't afford to go up against Motorola/Kenwood legal lobbying teams. They certainly won't want to jeapordize their billions against the Chinese upstarts.

So...are you in the importing business? I ask this because, well..there is a Todd at AnyTone Tech, or it so it's been reported.

I just can't wait to see the HE** raised on here if somehow AnyTone does come back with a legal certification.

If you/they are able to get a legitimate certification and don't misrepresent the product, I might even buy one. Heck, if they are that good, I'll buy two.

Of course I like to deal with companies with legit mailing addresses and phone numbers, so I'll hold off for a reseller like Ed Griffin who doesn't hide behind Google Maps, post offices in rural towns, or forum sock puppets. :D

But 11 meter radios and cocaine are never advertised as being legal. That has been the basis of my complaint about your deceptive marketing.

(((HA...I can't afford to go up against Motorola/Kenwood legal lobbying teams. They certainly won't want to jeapordize their billions against the Chinese upstarts.)))

You wouldn't have to go up their lobbying teams if you had just marketed the radio honestly. People have been buying those radios regardless of certification. You could have done very well on it without making up lies.

((( They'll be a lot of crying by the self appointed radio cops then. As was posted earlier somewhere...I will pop myself a BIG bowl of popcorn and watch the trolls throw their flaming barbs...lol. Anyway enough said by me on this topic. I agree to disagree...politely.

So go ahead and try. Since it was the manufacturer that originally filed it, will you be filing independently this time or try to get the manufacturer to do it again?

On the one hand, you're complaining the laws aren't fair and in the other you're pretending the laws don't exist.

If you want to make the "radio cops" shut up, the easiest way to do that is to STOP LYING.

been told NOT to sell them

Youa re indeed correct. It was late and I was too tired to bother proofreading. Guess it bit me in the arse.

A federal government staff member accepting a bribe?

Oh the horror! Its unheard of, isn't it?

they were told they were not allowed to sell them to "the general public" from the day the FCC cert was granted.

That doesn't matter. As long as its listed and marketed with the pulled cert, everyone is the general public. They could probably spin it as a amateur radio and get away with it for the time being, but they aren't doing that.

I'm not affiliated in any way with AnyTone.

Nope...not this Todd at AnyTone. My callsign isn't even the same as the one referred to.

I am just sick of the close minded ,ultra conservative, self appointed radio cops thinking they're better than the rest of us. I've dealt with this type of personality multiple times since becoming licensed. There's always one or two either in a club or ostracized from a club that always go around trying to tell others what to do, or they're not doing something right...in an asinine sort of way...(not the polite help of a new ham by an elmer). Heck, I called a taxi company for a ride on an autopatch one time and got yelled at for using the repeater for business purposes by a local ham "cop".

After reading the front of the ARRL repeater directory I learned these types of "calls" are perfectly fine. Ordering a pizza or making a dental appointment were the OK examples listed in the repeater directory. As long as it doesn't put money directly in my pocket while conducting a business...I was ok.

It's a type of " I've got to control something because I feel out of control" mental illness/narcissism that these radio/band "cops" exhibit. I have no use for it.

One of my favorite movie lines came from the first Star Wars movie where princess Leia tells the evil admiral..."The more you try to control something, the more it will slip thru your fingers"....lol.

I agree everyone here is entitled to their OPINION and point of view...and I agree to disagree with several on here.

I await the outcome of the re-application of the TERMN-8R. 73.

There you go again. Amateur radio is a self policing radio service. That's unfortunate that this comes as a surprise to you. In any case, it looks like the FCC is the radio cop on this one. Nobody in this forum has the power to make Amazon products VANISH from Amazon without a trace. That was obviously the result of government action.
I also don't think anyone has criticized anyone else in the forum for violating FCC rules with their radio. The only thing I've seen was calling out a liar for lying.
