I suspect it is trying to be marketed as military spec but it's hard to tell much fomr the description. Just curious what others thought of the design and likelihood that it would function well on the frequencies listed given the small size.

Looks like a cross polarized or circular polarized yagi, both good for sat work.

Looks like upper UHF, but hard to tell without a good measure, could be 400 MHz band.

Would guess has a 5% to 10% bandwidth at best.

Sat fone antenna

My trips to Afghanistan, Iraq and many years ago to Somalia, the military advisors, "spooks" and all other who would not let us take their pictures had small satphone systems that used this antenna. I remember wishing I could get my hands on one back then.

The other posters are corrrect...circular polarization but can't confirm the frequency range...but it is NOT VHF for sure...

As a connoisseur of fine military satcom antennas I am a little suspicious. Earlier ads from this Ebay seller show the antenna connected to a Motorola LST-5 225-400MHz satcom radio, but the element lengths look wrong for this band. Now they say the “HF” radio is not included but this appears to be an amateur band VHF or UHF handheld. Does the seller even know what he is talking about? Smells kinda like the guy selling 3 element UHF yagis as the miracle VHF thru 800MHz scanner antenna. BTW, the cheapest portable UHF mil satcom antenna as used by our troops starts around $2,700, not 5 for $400.

Certainly not an indication of it's quality, or performance. Just another example of careless spending by Government. Realistically they are probably manufactured for about $30.00.

I have been to one of the factories that make the real ones (Trivec-Avant) and they cost a lot for good reason. Everything is machined to high precision and some models are quite complex mechanically as they fold up very small and are extremely rugged. There is an expensive commercial wide band 90deg power splitter and load inside and the entire assembly process has a massive paper trail for accountability. The govt contractors are also not going to state bogus specs, they must perform as advertised. You can make one at home for a few $ but your not going to become a govt contractor by working out of your garage either.

The Antenna looks like the type that the Defence Forces would use but then again it might not be and this person is taking people for a ride and loughing all the way to the bank.

It it is truly military, it would have Mil-Spec numbers on it. The OP should ask the seller for that identifying info.

Here is a pic of the more common UHF mil satcom antennas. The elements on the Ebay unit would look way out of proportion compared to these.

Take a look at the alignment of the elements. It's difficult to imagine that a directional antenna, even a C/P antenna's parasitic elements would not be in line along the boom.
