OK firstly, this is the 3rd 92 I have owned, the 2nd B model....

With the last two, niether would allow trunking in bank 9, this one does so OHHHRAHH!
This one has another interesting quirk... the others all showed tones rapidly on all bands,... and both showed the same tones for various freqs.... Number 3 has issues on tones on VHF HI.... Itll take a lil longer than the first two did, and more often than not shows a completely different tone than the right one... Usually after a few hours of monitoring it shows the right tone,... This makes me wonder about using it in closed mode on conventional.... SHould I just put the tones as none and then scan in closed mode and hope for the best? On trunking this one seems to be doing even better than the first two did....

So I guess that iether every 92 has its own personality, or I have a gremlin that likes to screw with my mind LOL.

I am a little confused. You know of course that the PL and DPL settings mean nothing in manual mode. They have no effect. Sure, it will show the current tone/code being decoded but if you have one programmed and sit on a frequency it will show whatever it is hearing at the moment. The PL/DPL settings only limit what you hear when programmed with a tone, in scan mode, in closed mode. (We are talking Pro-92/2067 here for those people who only read the last post of a thread and think they have information to give...)

I am still confused about the Bank 9 thing BTW. Yours are the only ones that I have ever heard of that would not allow you to trunk on bank 9. :?

I have noticed with mine, that when I trunk Motorola here in closed mode that sometimes it will show a police text tag (i.e. West Jordan PD) but it will be a fire unit talking to a hospital is the audio. I have the same prob. with my 2067. I think they are junk.

My 92B works fine. Of course it has been recently replaced by my 95 for mobile use.

Lou, I know that part... this is happening in scanning in open mode,... And when I input the proper tones, when scanning it will not display a tone at all sometimes on VHF..... though on UHF it has no issues....

Thats what makes me think that maybe its a slight setting issue in the 92's "brain" ,and makes me wonder about scanning in closed mode.... if it won't recognize the correct tones it won't break squelch and let the transmissions be heard...

Thus my idea of leaving the tones for the ones that are not working right, to none, and going from there....

It only seems to be happening on a few freqs.. so its not too serious an issue....

Just curious as to anyone else having this kind of experiences....

As for the other ones not trunking on 9.... I have no answers and have given both of them to friends that only wanted an LTR capable trunker.

If this tone issue degrades to the point its really a PITA, I will take it to RS and have them play with it....

i have a 92b that humns... only sometimes.... if it is tuesday or 2:30 in the afternoon (zappa paraphrase).... it doesn't hum as badly as the original... this is boards from two different 92bs.... one was partially destroyed in an "oooppps that was my scanner" accident, the other from a friend who had the original whiner that became so bad sometimes he couldn't monitor it..... it also will not track edacs on bank nine.... didn't try moto but edacs is a no go.... have another one, an a model that also won't track on bank nine.... it doesn't whine..... still a good radio, given the personality....

milf, you must have a third defective Pro-92. Bad luck!

At this very moment, my V1 is :D scanning ED in bank 9. And my A and B 2067's will also. PL/DPL discrimination, as Lou stated, only works during scan while scanning in closed mode on programmed unlocked PL/DPL mode freqs. Open mode does just that, try to find any tones for any unlocked freq set to PL/DPL mode.

And unitcharlie, I sure hope you're not as clumsy with a good Kentucky Bourbon.

Well all I can say is this.. it fixed itself when I went mobile yesterday.. now it shows correct tones for all freqs.. Go figure.....

I also am an extreme user...... The only time I won't pack a scanner is in a fire situation LOL....

As for humming.. this one hums slightly when on AC power.....

Also for those that think tones won't show in manual mode: WRONG!

When you have the chan set for iether PL, or DPL and sit it for NONE in manual mode, when a transmission is heard,... the tone WILL be displayed along with the lightening bolts! Hit trunk and your tone is stored.

Apparently we missed your meaning.

If scanning open or in manual, it'll capture any tone and NONE will be displayed in manual until it does capture a tone. The comment in bold above lead me to believe you were not scanning in closed mode.

The bold again prompting my comment--SCAN Closed--then only those unlocked programmed freqs with programmed tones will function. Also, if a duplicate freq without a programmed tone is unlocked in the bank, any user in range will cause it to function without a tone. As will a freq programmed and set as PL/DPL without an assigned tone (NONE).

This I know.. what was bugging me was:

I programmed in the known tones.
I set it for closed mode.
NOTHING was heard at all.
I then went to open mode.
Then I heard the coms, and it would show NONE, or an incorrect tone.
This led me to wonder just how to make it work.
Then it fixed itself.... after two reset/inializations/reprogrammings,... and just plain old patience....

Now it seems to be working just fine......

As I siad- go figure LOL

Makes you ponder the old Ghost in the Machine theories.....
And I am glad to know that my previous experiences with the bank 9 and trunking issues were NOT just me.... That makes me glad I am not totally insane yet.. just borderline.
(Though crossing that line can be fun at times.... no not thorazine and straight jackets and padded cellssss oh my!)

So does mine, it gets quite annoying when you are trying to record an interesting event on your comp. and you can't get ScanRec to close the squelch because of the hum.

BTW- The only time I don't listen to my scanner is while I'm eating (sometimes I do) and in school, although I wouldn't mind listening to the APs.

I have three 2067's, all "B" models and seldom do I have this problem. Mostly in open mode when it does happen. They have their flaws but then again it's old technology now considering that the 92/2067 came out in the late '90's.

Turn your radio on, and while the opening display is still on press the number 3 button and tell us what firmware version your radio is.

My Pro 92B was also very tempermental with bank 9 and I didnt find it to be a very reliable radio in general. While it was a major improvement over my Pro-26 in that it did trunking, I was very very happy to get a 96 and retire it.

sorry to pop back into this thread with another quirk... but it seems since i have been talking about my poor little pro 92 it has now decided never to display anything but DEC talkgroup info.... i enter it as afc (i need the extra numbers to pigeon-hole unfamiliar edacs users quickly) and the radio refuses to read anything but DEC. :?: i really like this radio but it is testing me now!

This is a limitation of the PRO-92; it doesn't accept AFS. One (sort-of) way around is to program the tag as the AFS number, if you don't need it for other info (easy with Win92).
