Hey everyone,

Early this morning about 1 am or so I started getting Skip on Texas Fire Mutual Aid < 154.2800 >. Seems this was a Fire involving a Ship of some sort. the guy talking was in Cargo hold as he described it and looking for signs of spread. all I could get about units involved were District 26 and Ladder 29 I believe it was.

Was fairly interesting listening that lasted for about 4 hours. The conversations were not complete, usally they would just warp in at the middle and then warp back out.. I used that term, because that just what it was like. one second the signal was there and the next it was gone.. and when it was there it was nice and strong.

Not sure where this was last night but I was thinking Corpus or maybe Houston, Anyone hear anything regarding a Ship or dockside fire last night in those areas or anywhere for that matter?

Anyway just thought I was pass along my observations and see if anyone else heard it as well.

Have a great day.

Several Emergency Crews Battle Ship Fire
Cause Of Fire Remains Under Investigation

POSTED: 8:11 am CDT October 18, 2004
HOUSTON -- Several emergency crews were called out to battle a ship fire in the Manchester Terminal of the Port of Houston Monday morning.

The fire began on the UAL Cargo ship shortly past midnight in the 10000 block of Manchester near 97th Street.

Houston firefighters called for extra assistance once arriving at the terminal.

"The crew is on board. Coast Guard is here. The fireboat is supplying the water supply for us. They're trying to hold it in check and offload some of the cargo that's not burning," Houston Fire Department Chief Tommy Dowdy said.

Fire officials said no injuries were reported and the ship channel was not shut down.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Hello Eric,

Yes I would have to say that sounds very much like it would fit the bill. Guess I should have done a little more legwork this morning :)

Thanks for adding the link to the news.

I Kept hearing East-1 thru 56 Clearing in Service with a 10-32 Dispatch kept answering: 10-2 base clear. On a Public safety frequency. It lasted too long so I never got a Call Sign or Location on it.

Skip from the SW has beem exceptional lately, Bryan-Collage Station DPS Repeater has been Drowning out My Local ones. Waco Primary-A comes in as well as Dallas Primary-A (KKA603) and, KKA603 seems to either have opened there repeater or the Skip is so strong, I am just hearing both sides.

Here in North Texas, STARNETS Control Channels have been comming in very well, infact, well enough to efectivly monitor the system.

A Ham Operator in Dallas the other day Talked into Mexico both TX-ing and RX-ing very well. on a local Mexican repeater. of course he was pumbing some 1500 watts.

I still want to know who the "Easy" call signs were. Maybe I will never know.
