Interference

Hello All,
I am new to all this stuff. I have an older Radio Shack 50 channel programmable scanner. I just got it out of storage and everything works. My question is this...I get a cab company that seems to interfere with my programed local channels. No matter what freq. or channel im on it talks over the local Police. It is very annoying....
Is there anything I can do about it?

TJ, without know more details, it's hard to say. What's the model number of the scanner? What kind of antenna are you using? Where are you, what freqs are you trying to monitor, and how close is the taxi freq to them? Also, how close to the taxi radio are you? This may simply be a case of a nearby transmitter overloading the scanner's front end. There are notch filters available that could eliminate or reduce the offending freq, but it would cost more than your scanner is worth.

If you are getting back into scanning, you might want to get a newer scanner. You might check the database for your area and see what there is to monitor, and on what bands.

Your's is a classic example of a post that just doesn't supply enough information for anybody to help you. If you can answer some of the above, sombody may be able to help you.

I have a Realistic Pro-2028 50 Channel Direct entery Programable Scanner...stock antenna. Probalby about 10 years old. I am monitoring local police bands in the surrounding towns. I'm in Massachusetts and the taxi company is in Boston...about 8 miles away from me. I dont know the exact location of the taxi company. Taxi comp. is about the same distance away from the police stations I monitor. It doesnt come over all the time, just often enough to be a nuisence.

What frequency is the taxi company on, and what frequencies are they coming across your scanner on?

First two tricks. Program police etc off freq. [-.005 or +.005] if VHF. Try a stubby antenna. Something very short may still get PD but not the Taxi. These tricks work in some cases but not all.
