Hello All,

I received my unit today and as I said to the 2-3 haters and others in the other threads including the conspiracy theorists I would be taking internal images first up. Some of those had units and would not do it, I did this before even power on or any tests. If it helps anyone happy to help them out.

Internal images have now been taken - unit taken apart and back together again (save for front face plates and keyboard). It's around 10 minutes or less - the ribbon board cable connector between the two board is the most tricky to be careful off - you detach if from the bottom board not the top one just near the speaker. It's well put together and has good gasket seals, including on the dials and BNC connector. PM me for the images.

As no one was willing to - even though they wanted to trash me before even knowing my motivation for the unit I did this for the RR forum as a whole. Being on here since around 1999, yep, long long time, and have been grateful for various posts over the years from people. It's what has made the forums and site stand the test of time - amazing when we all look back at the tech curve. A big thank you to Lindsay Blanton and his team for all their efforts.

Background
I have waited for a decent modern replacement for a portable handheld receiver for several years - it was between the Icom and the AOR (I will also get the Icom ICR-30 in a week or so - they will have DMR in a few months for those on the fence). I also looked at the SDS100 and have interest in the upcoming TRX100 from Whistler. All have their place.

I have used AOR products for near 30 odd years (amongst all the high and low end RF comms gear for Military, Sig Intel and other arena's including Ham/SDR/LTE etc. in no particular order). AOR have always gone beyond to make decent gear, yes, some issues from time to time but they have striven to do their best. 40 years in the game and many might not know they are also a design house for many other manufactures - yes, you could be using internals designed by AOR in your other brand. They know what is going on with the DV10 and firmware and possibly any hardware, I believe they will do right by people. It's a new product, new architecture and it's bound to have issues.

I could very well get the same results some others have had with their units, it's ok, I'll wait it out and see what comes of firmware updates and then see if any hardware issues crop up also. No big deal, I'm a patient man, I waited over 2 years for the DV10 to come out, and have waited 18 years to re-join to actually post to RR because of the trash talk coming from some.

All results will be in this thread (the good and the not so good).

Thank you all for your contributions and look forward to another 20 years on RR. Even though I might not post much after the DV10 reviews/updates, I will be reading.

I will also add that it appears the BOM is sub $300 excluding any royalties and R&D.

In the 1970s when I worked for the largest CB manufacturing company in the world, the profit margin was 4X including labor to assemble the radios. I suspect that is an industry standard and you have to consider quantity discounts on parts when purchased in bulk. Otherwise, thanks for the internal pics!

Hello,

It looks like the DV10 uses:
Renesas RX630 Processor
Analog Devices ADSP-BF702 BlackFin Processor
Altera Cyclone 4 FPGA
DVSI AMBE3000 AMBE/P25 CODEC

Two unpopulated headers appear to be for JTAG ports for RX630 and BlackFin.

I also found it interesting that AOR does not seem to encrypt their firmware, neither for the DV1 and DV10.

So, if you are right, anyone can reverse and make a new firmware for himself?

Look forward to reading those results!

I agree, AOR have made some great receivers, AOR 7030, AR5000 etc.

can anyone teel me, has the off Frequency problem in AOR DV10 has been fixed or planning a recall ? thank you.

Nope, they improved it a bit and added a sheet of paper saying you could experience a drift below 25mhz of more than 5ppm.
