Do I have to anything different to my SDS 200 if I just hook a Ethernet cable into the plug in, or will it change the way it runs and what good will it do for the radio if I do hook it up ?

Using the cables supplied WITH the radio in the manner specifically described in the manual are always going to be the best way to use these cables. It might help if you describe what you are attempting to do by plugging one in...

If you don't want to stream to the internet or have remote control of the scanner over IP there is no need to hook up the LAN cable.
