Howdy,

any fellow IC-R3 (or other ICOM scanner) owners experience similar annoyance?

I have my scanner configured to stay on the frequency for 5 seconds after the transmit ("Scan Resume" under options). If the transmission ends normally, this happens. But occassionally and annoyingly enough, if the transmission is of a weaker strength, the scanner just stops receiving and continues to rotate through the frequencies at some point. And since it does ~25 memories per second and that's about how much I have stored in my regular listen bank, it causes me to loose about a second or more of the transmission, quite often including the gist of it.

I dont have an R-3, but R-2 & R-5 Models have a "RESUME" option which should be set to "HOLD" so that scanning doen not resume until the transmission is over.
The "PAUSE" option, which holds on the frequency after all transmission ceases, can be set to 5 seconds .
Hope this helps

The "Scan Resume" option has possible values ranging from 0-5 seconds and "hold", which means to stay on the frequency until I manually hit a button to resume. However, even if set to "hold", it still behaves the same way - if a connection drops below some point (I assume this is the value the auto-squelch was opened at), it'll just continue scanning regardless of the setting of "Scan Resume".

Hm, I found another option titled "Pause Scan", which by manual, is the amount of seconds the scanner will pause after receiving a signal, in the range of 2-20 seconds or "hold", which will pause until the signal disappears.

It puzzles me what the other options besides "hold" would be useful for, but I have changed mine to that now and will see if it makes a difference. It was at 10 seconds - I constantly hear transmissions longer than that and the times it breaks it's usually well before that threshold. Go figure.
