I also acquired a Uniden BC 350A after my uncle passed away in July 2007. But, it appears to have been struck by Lightning...like every other electronic in that house has been once.

I am not sure where in Iowa or Illinois will repair it. Can ship it if necessary. Uniden's website quoted $45. If I plug it in and turn it on the display does not light up and I hear nothing but a Static Sound.

But that fact that I Spend around $25 to get it going two years ago for the guy, I am just not so sure.

Anybody here want a stab at fixing it?

Jasper County

I literally just took possession of my pro-162 today. I used to be a scanner geek 10 years ago or so but I went off to college and never listened to a peep since. Since picking up a CB for a cross country trip last year I got the radio bug again so I've been studying up for a Technicians class license and I picked up this Pro-162 on sale. If anyone has any tips on neat local/Iowa freqs drop me a PM, I'd be glad to know about them. I'm a little on the confused side of all this trunking stuff, but I'm sure as I play around with this thing I'll figure it out.

Welcome

Alex Welcome to R.R., if you have not checked out the database here you should. The info for Jasper county should be correct. There is a couple of RACOM sites (EDACS TRS) that you should be able to hear if your in the Newton area. One thing to check out if your interested in racing is the Speedway.
If you have questions ask. Somebody will help.

fireside: Thanks, I've got some Jasper, Powashiek, Tama, and Ham freqs programmed in (by carpal tunnel inducing hand). I live in Kellogg, so I'm not exactly poised to get a ton of traffic surrounded by hills., I picked up an improved rubber ducky that seems to have helped out. I've been getting a lot of traffic from the Jasper sheriff, but it's been a bit one sided as the car usually isn't close enough for me to receive. Quick question, if I program in say the Newton RACOM freqs and don't input talkgroups, will I hear all traffic or none at all?

Yes,you should here everything by scanning in open mode. When a talkgroup comes up you do not want to listen to hit L/O. I do not have the 162 scanner, but if their anything like the PRO 96 ,97s thats how you do it. If i'am wrong somebody will chime in. Just make sure you can recive the control ch. which sounds like a motorboat.
What freq. are you hearing Jasper county on?

154.845, I'm pretty sure I'm getting the dispatch base @ the sheriffs office off of the interstate but not the cars. Which given my location isn't unexpected.

I'll play around with the trunking and see what comes up, thanks for the help. Excited to be a virtual peeping tom again ;).
