I was just curious if anyone has been scanning the election coverage in/around the state? Was interested to find out what frequencies are being used by media, security, candidates, etc.

I would presume the security is likely being handled mostly by the USSS but I wasn't sure.

With the intense media interest, I would think there would already be a thread going on this but I guess not. :)

Cain was the only candidate that was receiving Secret Service protection, and he's out. Perry was being protected by Texas DPS, escorted by the Iowa State Patrol's Executive Protection Division. Romney has his own private security. Not sure what others are using, but I believe Romney is the only one with ISP escort as he is the only sitting governor.

Security at the media filing center was handled by the county sheriff's office since it was hosted at a county-owned venue. Not much to monitor there.

As for the media, the media doesn't really use two-way anymore, even for an event like this.

Campaign staffs all use cell phones or instant messaging on their smart phones.

There's really not much to scan that is caucus-specific. It was that way in 2008 too. Even when I traveled in the State Patrol motorcade with Richardson there wasn't a need for two-way radio.

Appreciate the update. Hmm very interesting. I wonder if that's a conscious decision not to use radio. ;)

A lot of the candidates' security folks were wearing earpieces, but I came up with nada using close call search 'n' store at the campaign events I went to.
