On an SDS100. Heard what sounded like a retirement ceremony for a trooper on this freq, been some other traffic as well since. Scanner/RR identifies it as a railroad freq but never hear rail related chatter on it.

Thanks!

Yes, it's used in the Ossipee Hill site of the MSCOMNET trunk system.

Hm I see it here: Maine State Communications Network (MSCommNet) Trunking System, Statewide, Maine - Scanner Frequencies but it looks like my Uniden scanner's software only downloads MSCOMNET frequencies from here... Maine - MSCommNet - Maine State Communications Network Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

I'm new to digital so I'm wondering if this isn't just working as intended... though still everything on this frequency shows up as the railroad frequency, which is annoying but oh well.

Railroad and marine band frequencies are sometimes used when there is a shortage of frequencies available. What is your city and county and which agencies would you like to monitor? If you haven't already done so, here is the link to download and install Sentinel, free programming software supplied by Uniden: BCDx36HPSentinel < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

The SDS100 will support digital trunking as used in the MSCommNet system. It will also download the conventional frequencies as well. Both of those systems, which are actually the same system, are in the built in database in the SDS100.

keep in mind, that MSComNet is a mix of VHF Trunked frequencies as well as VHF Conventional [some used to patch for Interop]

I lived in a lager city and when they went P25, the smaller towns around used a patch system for comms with the city.

In Maine, 160.6500 is part of the trunk, not a patched conventional channel
Here are the Regional Patches [not PL for Analog not P25]

IF the OP can tell us the NAC that would ID which of the two sites he is hearing.

He's in Maine and the MSCommNet system uses a number of unused frequencies that are allocated to other services as part of the system.

Correct, on Part 90, Part 22, and NTIA assignments were given to Maine [and other states] for the build out of their VHF Trunks.

The former Woodway PD in Texas had to purchase a pair of marine band frequencies at an auction in Galveston for their VHF trunking system to work. They are no longer using this system.
