Is answering requests for frequencies by telling people to look it up on RR Database such a good idea?

I just looked at the data base on RR Database for Berrien County and Cass County. About 80% of the Police Departments don't use any of the frequenciest that is listed, because they are on the State System now!
And some of the Fire Department no longer use these systems eitheer.

In Cass County all police Department use some of the Frqequencies listed but not all of the ones listed.

In Cass County only half of the fire frequencies listed are ever used!!

I am afraid if You send a new scaner owner/listner to this page and they put the frquencies thaat aren't used in their scanners, they will listen for hours and hours, not hear a thing, give up scanning and next summer put the scanner in a Yard Sale!

gary all the new cass channels added the other day are now active this comes from my local radio shop since they went repeated and changed pl. most of those channels are old michigan dnr channels since they gave them up and went to mpscs. Berrien county is unknown to me by the way same resource but they use three sites to transmit fire info and still not repeated to my knowledge most of these departments are not busy as we don't hear them that often. when some departments only run 8 calls a month no wonder we think this. I feel your pain. have a nice day

When the frequencies in the data base don't work in a particular County, one can always move to a County where they do work.
Don't through away that scanner, just start to drive and somewhere you will find that all the frequencies will work. (somewhere)

To begin with, if they put in all then odds are they'll hear something on one of the options. But more important -- if you know the area, make submissions and correct invalid entries... Waiting for people to ask and then answering them doesn't to the database a squat of good, so fix what we have and make it better for all!

Telling people to refer to the data base? Well I would say that is a good idea when the question is

"Can someone tell me the freqs for XYZ?"

Why repeat what's in the DB?

Now if the question comes across

"Can someone tell me if the freqs in the DB for XYZ are correct, they don't seem to be working for me."

Then that is something else. You've done your homework and are having a problem that needs help. Maybe the area has recently changed and it hasn't been reported.

So depending on how you word your request, the answere is

It depends.

How's that for straddling the fence?? :)

good point straddling the fence... :D anyway some of the departments don't have 3grand plus sitting around to buy the 800 radios anyway so they got more vhf channels. anyway they are not repeated and most of the departmwents don't run a lot so it' s a crapshoot anyway if there are good channels anyway. but like you said maybe there is a problem but we never know until we find out. :p
