Is anyone else having problems with receiving the SCPD radios ?

Hello Everyone..
Is anybody else having problems receiving the SCPD radios ?
For me it worked this morning. This evening before listening to the scanner I reprogrammed it with the additional control channel freqs listed on the front page. To test the reprogramming I restored the last config that had worked this morning and still nothing.

Now I receive nothing, when I analyze the control channel I hear nothing on any of them.
Any ideas ?

Fixed it.. Thanks ..

Last night they changed to a control channel that I didnt have programed in my scanner. I did a search on the scanner found the working cc channel and everything is working fine again.

I just re-programmed my Pro-163 yesterday, and it works like a champ.
First, I updated the firmware via Radio Shack's website.
Next, I went to WWW.W2LIE.NET and used the info exactly as he has it posted on the
front page. That's it !!!!!

Just follow his instructions and you should have no problems.

I'm lost... I have a pro-433. I've been listening to scanners for 30 years but this rebanding thing confuses me. Is the pro-433 rebandable? I bought this scanner maybe 2 years ago to listen to trunked systems.

The Pro433 will not work. You will need a newer radio to listen to SCPD now.

Thanks for the info. W2lie, which scanner in the $200. range would you recommend? I just may go to radioshack later and pick 1 up. I have a pro433, pro2029, pro2003, a pro2006 and maybe another 1 or 2 hidden around here somewhere.

Hmmm..........maybe you should elaborate what "SCPD" refers to? Seneca County Police Department or ???????

It is Suffolk County Police. They rebanded this past month.

I sent the last poster a list of radios that will work via email since he emailed me directly with the same question. Short answer: anything that trunks that is currently on store shelves will work.

Although most of us easily figured out the OP was referring to the Suffolk County TRS, stevez97 makes a good point. It's definitely preferable to avoid using initials, abbreviations, acronyms or codes on such a diverse message board. Even within NY there are multiple agencies with the initials "SCPD". Believe it or not, the world doesn't start or end on the Island.

Just got back into scanning..

Hello all,
I was just wondering.. I recently decided to get back into scanning.. I have an old school uniden bc780xlt that i bought when it was hot off the presses..
I read the previous posts about the rebanding... will i have to buy another scanner to continue to receive the SCPD and all of the 800 stuff that i used to listen to around the island? or can i just get away with a simple firmware load?

If i may, can i get a copy or could someone point me to where i can get a list of all the latest and greatest scanners?

That is correct.. You will need to buy a new scanner to listen to SCPD. A firmware load won't do it for the 780 since Uniden doesn't support firmware upgrading that radio.

That Radio will still work fine for Suffolk Fire and Nassau Conventional and EDACS.

Amityville is still on VHF (155.58). Asharoken and Huntington Bay P.D.'s are dispatched by Northport PD on the Suffolk County 800 system (1264 and 496 respectively). Northport simulcasts on the 800 trunked system (1072) and their own VHF freq. (155.610).

Also, SUNY PD (Stony Brook & Farmingdale) and MTA PD also operate on Suffolk's 800 system...

I tried to just load the new channel frequencies and look for 51376 which is Suffolk County PD Precinct 2, and I only receive an occasional transmission and not the associated reply. Would the firmware fix that problem? Also, could someone describe the exact steps to take to get the 163 to work? Many thanks,

The lack of rebanding on your portable would cause that. You would probably get a bit more help posting your question in the dedicated Radioshack forum. I'd like to offer a bit more help than that, but I'm not familiar enough with the Radioshack scanners nowadays...
