so there is now way we can avoid/skip FM broadcast band from CloseCall feature. I too receive FM stations when close call is active.

Since this is the 436 thread, I assume you are talking about that scanner.

Very easily done. Start at your MENU. Scroll down to "Srch/CloCall Opt", then "Broadcast Screen", then "Set Each Band", then you can turn FM to "Off" You will see other services listed that you can also toggle on or off, as well.

There is also a way to set up custom bands to skip during close call operation. I find Close Call to be extremely handy when I take my radio in places like Walmart or Costco to quickly find the store staff frequencies, or at the scene or fire or police emergencies when you don't have exact frequencies handy.

Hey guys i have a problem. When using close call only in UHF band i see NXDN transmission and it is picked up whereas the DMR transmission is not picked up and not even visible on the bars in close call only mode!!! Whats wrong? I have the dmr key activated. It should at least get the digital noise... Tested same radio 2 feet from the scanner.

That is normal, at least for simplex DMR. The 50% duty cycle of simplex DMR (transmitter only turned on 50% of the time) prevents Close Call from picking it up. Close Call will pick up DMR repeaters, which broadcast on both timeslots.

Folks, would the same limitation apply to a digital frequency counter? Thanks.

Close Call is for really close transmissions or really strong transmissions. Use search instead and you might get much more. An outdoor antenna will lengthen the reception on these functions.

Close call is exactly what it says, close. Ive used it on my 436 and 346XTC (It works better on the 346XTC AND my older BC92XLT..) but yeah, you wont get close call for long distances unless its 1: Line of sight, or 2: right next to the radio (10-30 feet)
Another way that close call works good is in a low RF noise environment. So outdoors would help, and the wattage of the radio helps too. Mobiles will trip CC off more often because their wattage is higher. Again it all depends on where you are, how close you are, and what conditions are present.

A good example is a mall, stores, somewhere where you can get right next to the radio. A hotel would also work too. Inside of buildings is where you'll get good results. Analog works good, havent had many CC hits on digital (P25).

Hope this helps.

Here is a sample listing of CC Hits (CC DND) on one of my BCD996T's.

I get hits all day, every day on most of my scanners. A mix of several generations of Uniden DMA scanners.

They're connected to an outside antenna with a pre-amp at the base of the antenna.

Hits labeled as NYSEG are of the New York State Electric & Gas Company.
They are running P25.

You'll see lots of hits for Civilian air and some MilAir as well as some county Police, fire, and EMS.

Logged with ScanRec Pro
Each hit in the file has a timestamp and duration.

Ah, nice. Data is interesting... :)
But yeah. wow, lots of close call hits! Nice. You should take one of your handheld scanners and go to a mall. Lots of fun trying to find what store uses what frequency.

I haven't done that, but.................

I used to work where there were many, many radios in use.

I turned the scanner on when I got to work and set up to store CC Hits.
Within just 2 days, I had it all.

I haven't tried it recently, but I used pick up a lot of the fast food drive through radios.
That was quite a while ago and things may be different now.

By the way, the agency you see hits from around June 9, 2016 resulted in this:
Deleted links.

Edit:
Actually it was a BIG drug bust.

Radioroo: You may want to read this thread : "UHF Reception Issues due to Noise from Battery Compartment (Multi-page thread 1 2 3 ... Last Page)" it is currently on page 3 on the Uniden Tech Support site. It may help identify ( I say help...maybe not solve) the problem. The readers digest version is that older (and you will have to determine how old...read the thread) 436HP's have a noisy battery compartment which causes increased noise to the receiver and therefore decreased reception on VHF High and 400-500 MHz as well. This may impact close call in those ranges. Anyway.....read the thread...the fix is simple. Good luck.

Also, the stock duck is NOT tuned for CB, so forget about CB Close Call hits unless you are very close. But if you have an outdoor antenna that is reasonably resonant at 27MHz, you can get Close Call hits from hundreds of miles away when the skip is in.

With CC on my scanner it is constantly going off because of the Local PD repeater on the hill about 3/4 of a mile behind my house, otherwise CC does alright for me. When i'm out and about using my Mag mount on my car CC is effective for about 1/2-3/4 of a mile it seems, sometimes more if i'm in a flat area and somebody keys up.
