What's the real deal with the 436, the general consensus from everyone I have talked to is that it's "overpriced garbage" manufactured by a company that keeps trying to reinvent itself.
I'm new to Uniden, all my previous scanners were GRE or Radio Shack branded with my most recent being the Pro 164 which I absolutely loved. I had my eyes on the 436 specifically because it touts support for both APCO P 1 & 2. Now that my county operates under P 1 I find myself jumping into the digital fray.
My next scanner will venture out on a daily basis running upwards of 12 hours per day and seven days a week, while being subjected to inconsistent weather patterns. I will primarily use it to monitor three cities and CHP so resource usage will be minimal due to it's intended usage as a work related scanner. Ultimately I want to know if it's built to last and can handle my type of usage consistently or if I'd be better off with a different brand or model altogether.
