While I was working in EMS, I was pretty anal and knew where everything was. Now that I'm inactive I lose crap all of the time. I bought my BC296D so I could still hear what was going on. Bought the Rat Shack 800mhz antenna for better reception. First I lose my programming cable ($23.00) Then I lose the 800mhz antenna ($18.00). I buy both of those because somehow some way the stock antenna was closed in something or God knows what but the top is bent and the rubber around the thing is torn. So I go buy the stuff I lost, then buy a racing antenna (why, I have no idea) then run out of cash to buy the high gain antenna and rat shack didn't have the telescopic I wanted for my freq. counter either(one of my kids snapped the old one - speaking of which anyone have an idea as to how good the present antennas I have would work with my counter at this point?) Oh yeah, over the weekend my oldest son, who has just joined a local volly department decides he wants to appropriate my old 245CLT and somehow snaps the BNC connection in the scanner in half. Needless to say there is now a telescopic ant. soldered right to the scanner (ha,ha - actually picks up better than it did before).

So is it me or what? (And yes - I was a "black cloud" while I was working.

Joe, If I were you I would just go sit in the corner and stay there.

Note to self: Don't let Joe or anyone from his family touch my scanning equipment.

It'll get better...

No, Joe, it's not just you.

Joe, I can relate to your frustration.

I finally bought a heavy duty metal two-drawer tool box for antennas and antenna-related items (misc. adapters, 90 degree BNC's, coax jumpers, etc.).

One drawer for BNC, and the other for SMA and TNC antennas. The open "well" area below the "lid" is for all the odds & ends.

Now for the hard part (for me, anyway), as soon as I am finished using a particular antenna or part, it goes BACK in its appropriate drawer NOW, NOT later. Not after I've put it down somewhere and have forgotten where, because I've been side-tracked by 8 different issues.

What's that old saying? "Too soon old, too late wise." I don't know if I qualify for "wise," but I can tell that I now waste less time searching for that particular antenna that . . . Man! I just used that dang thing 2 days ago! What did I do with it?! ;-)

It worked for me, but then I will admit to being slighty on the OCD side-of-the-street!

Take care.
