Had a customer in today mentioned that the City of Nashville has a anti scanner law/

Is this true maybe on books just never enforced?

Thanks

There is a law but to my knowledge isn't inforced I believe it states that you need a permit (there has been disscussion of this subject in this forum in the past). I called the PD myself to ask if I could have a scanner in my car and after being handed off to several different departmentss I was told that it was okay as long as it wasn't used in comission of a crime.

I worked for Metro in the mid 90's and no one even knew anything about the permits or if anyone had one. Their was, however, one officer that knew the law and would enforce it. I believe he is still on the road to this day. The Metro Government and it police department did not like to give out municipal citations for violations of metro ordinances. This is due to the government wanting the burden on the General Sessions court system verus the metro government spending the money and manpower to enforce and prosecute. We were always advised to write state citations out rather than metro citations for violations. The Metro Government does, however, spend the time and effort on codes violations.

It doesnt really matter in my opinion because ever since Nashville went to the digital trunked system they have now, most people cannot afford the type of scanner needed to listen to them.

There are several Metro officers that don't even know that digital scanners even exist.

Don't give them a reason to pull you over. I don't think a scanner in a car is a big deal to the PD unless your a suspect in something. I've been running one in my truck for a couple of years and never had a problem. Even took it thru Ala and anti-scanner Fla all the way going by troopers and made it back just fine. People have their own opinions on this subject but I will continue to go mobile where ever i go. Happy Scanning.

I have done the same through Kentucky with the scanner as a cb radio monitoring. Also had it in Fla when I go down there, in the car as well.
