Is NJICS going totally encrypted?



I am hearing lot of rumor, conjecture (and perhaps it’s just all BS 💩) about the NJICS trunk system is going totally encrypted.

I am personally watching this slowly in the RRDB as State, County and Municipal TG’s especially LE are going dark with the big E. This trend is now even tricking into FD, EMS, OEM and DPW TG’s. With some municipalities having ALL their radio TG’s being the Big E.

Considering National Security events, FIFA World Cup, The 250th US independence celebrations, ICE operations, Live Feeds, Smart phone Apps along with pitches from Radio Equiptment Sales Persons the pressure to push users continues to encrypt everything. Again rumor has it by mid 2026 75% NJICS will be “Dark” and by 2028 Over 95% with the goal of everything being E shortly there after.
Again I do not know of any details here, to me it’s just rumor and I am just throwing it out there for discussion.

Its up to the agency to decide whether or not they want to encrypt. Some dont see the need while some dont have the ability. Its not something NJOIT has control over. They provide the system not the subscribers.

NJOIT hasn’t had control of the system in about 2 years - NJSP has “control” of NJICS now

Yeah, this. Can we please stop acting like 8 year olds and just type out the word encryption? Somewhere here years ago someone incorrectly got it into their heads that the RR mods will ban anyone who spells out the word encryption, and it's absolutely false, so let's stop propagating the myth and act like adults. So juvenile and silly.

Um Why? No one has said that here but you. In my honest opinion, you can hit the report button if you think that we are mentioning big bad encryption too much, or don't follow this post. I don't think it is against the rules of RR forums to talk about encryption, just the negative talk about how online Scanner feeds are pushing for encryption. But what do I know? It's just that when encryption is mentioned here, people freak out and use silly words to describe it, and it's very annoying. That is all I was pointing out.
