The database only shows 2 encrypted talkgroups for Phoenix PD. (2 tac channels at the airport). Posts in the forums seem to indicate that tac & detective & car/car talkgroups are encrypted. Can someone clarify? Peter Sz

I believe the color coded chart is a better example of what is and is not encrypted. Basically anything white on the chart isn't encrypted. Plenty of talkgroups to monitor in the clear.

Take a look at the Mode column of talkgroups. Anything with a "D" you will be able to monitor. This included all the standard Phoenix dispatch talkgroups and HOT dispatch talkgroups.
Anything with an "E" in the Mode column is encrypted and cannot be monitored.

Ok, I have a question for those who listen to the RWC TRS.
Shall I delete the old mapping grid that was initially pushed out when the system first came on line? I hesitated deleting it as a reference, but this is not the first time that someone has pointed out that they don't match. The system has of course migrate to other areas.
Thoughts?

To answer some of your questions, the chart that is listed on the RWC page is very old and should be used as a loose reference. Many of the channels have changed. Also, “G” and “H” deck channels seem to be inconsistently programmed in different agency radios. Long story short, there is not any solid information on a lot of the rarely used channels. We all learn by listening.

Phoenix has been using this radio system for 4+ years and there is still very unreliable information about talkgroups other than A, B, and C Decks. Tempe and Peoria who have only had their new systems online for just a few months, and their channels are almost fully mapped! I would like to see some more accurate information for Phoenix.
Fire is now starting to use “K” and “L” deck talkgroups that are also unconfirmed. If anyone has any solid information about D to L deck talkgoups, please submit to the database for updating.

I don't think you should delete it..it's still a great reference to look at. I got a look at an updated version of the grid a couple weeks ago and it wasn't that much different at all. A few channels were different and some of the encryption was different, but overall it was very similar.

Yeah I saw it hanging up at PPD communications.. maybe somebody could contact the department and see if an updated version is available. Seeing that most of the PPD stuff in the SWFD books are provided by the department, it doesn't seem impossible.
Apparently it would be correct to say that the Dispatch / Primary talkgroups, and the Chase / 'in progress incident' talkgroups are not encrypted - but the car to car, detective, SWAT, info channels are encrypted.
Some of the interop channels are encrypted - some are not - or some have not been IDed yet?
How about conventional mutual aid channels? 851.0125 - 851.5125 - 866.0125 - 866.5125 - 770 Mhz ??? Any use heard there?

Not much has changed, has it? The Phoenix PD D/E/F & J decks are still unknown. The SPTAC's are 700MHz conventional simplex frequencies on I-deck ch's 13-16, but other than my best guess of 765.15625, 765.21875, 765.65625 & 765.71875, are unconfirmed.
