Are you referring to this site?

www.scancat.com

If so, I doubt I would have proceeded with a purchase. All updates are dated 2018 or older, and that's curious in my opinion. You can try emailing them:

support@scancat.com

EDIT: On this page:

Whistler - The Short Answer

I see the name "Jim Springer". I doubt that helps, but wanted to provide that.

Which radios are you using Scancat with? In many instances, particularly with the newer scanners, software is available (assuming here that Scancat has gone dark..;.)

I never heard of Scancat, so I don't know much about them.
However doing some digging, Jim Springer the owner of the company, is 83 years old. I see his wife passed away in 2020 at the age of 78. She co-owned Computer Aided Technologies with Jim.
Maybe Jim's health has declined ? I would keep that in mind before roasting him too badly.

Met J Springer in the 90's at Dayton hamvention, wouldn't say he was young then. Nice guy but quit using his product because it lacked a feature he refused to implement. If he's gone try contacting the credit card companies. If he passed on there is good chance the family don't know much about shutting things off, I see Facebook profiles of people that died and the family never takes down, may not be away, crappy lawyer doing estate not advised, etc.

Same problem here my friend. My software and license went with a hard drive crash, I just need it for some old RS scanners. Let me know if you actually get a hold of someone. Thanks.

I hope you get your money back. That's really not cool if they taking money and not delivering the product. I was thinking about buying again because I need the software for my old Pro95, 96, and 97 scanners.

If you're referring to a PRO-163 scanner, I believe that those scanners are similar to the PSR-400 units--Butel's ARC300 software should work with that scanner.

This doesn't solve your "Scanscat" issue, but it could be what you need to get your brother's scanner running again.

from this article in 2007 Mr Springer should be 82 years old now , hopefully he is in good health

I'm not sure if this is the same Jim Springer:

And then there is this:

Alicia Springer

"Her husband and her co-owned Computer Aided Technologies for many years."

Sorry for the delayed response but I haven't been on here in a while. Yes I did get your message and someone else told me he had passed away. I found my old login info and was able to see the record of my original ScanCat software purchase. But I can't get any response when I asked if I could get a copy of the license to convert ScanCat Lite into the full version. There is an option for me to purchase a discounted upgrade but I am unwilling to take a chance and lose my money. I am still hoping someone will sale or give me their old copy. The software is so old you would think it would be easy to come by. Anyway, thanks for staying in touch.

I just had a very nice conversation with "Mr. Scancat", Jim Springer. (Nov. 7, 2023) He retired in 2018, and is now 84. I just ordered Scancat-lite V1.8.1 (2017 ?) download + CD from the Scancat.com website. Download failed, but I did received the USPS shipping notification for the CD. Scancat.com is pretty well deprecated, Account Login and ordering works but email and phone support are NOT active. Jim did confirm that he shipped the CD plus some bonus extras. He was going to contact the website hosting service so I could try the download again, but I'm not holding my breath. I used Scancat back in 2004 with XP and needed an update for Windows 10. Hoping to update my PRO-97, PRO-164, AR8600, and Bearcat 125AT from RR. I not sure what the future availability of CD's might be.
It was a great to talk with a historical contributor to Scanner radio.

I tried to use ScanCat years ago and ran into tons of issues (like everyone else). My review is probably still here on RR somewhere. I settled on the WINXXX family and haven't looked back. Of course, now everyone is having issues contacting Don Starr from WINXXX. But I've kept my keys safe, don't need updates, and find it to work very well. Not sure what I'd do if I need to program a radio outside what his s/w supports. It's good to hear that the author is still with us and in retirement.
