I want to pick up a second Base/Mobile Scanner for monitoring local Police that have not gone trunked, Air, and whatever else. My Current Base/Mobile is a PRO-2051 for Trunking....

The BC350A seems like a low priced unit...

What do you all think?

Any other suggestions?

I am looking at new or used... but I am looking for best "Bang for the buck"...

Open for suggestions

Thanks

The 350C is the newest unit, it adds 800mhz. I used a 700 (think the old 350 with 800) for years in a company truck, then later on in personal service. I also had the RS versions that I picked up for cheap. The PRO-2038 had 800 while the RS PRO-2056 did not.

They are a little bit if a pain to program, as to the any banks other than "private" you have to lock out a lot of freqs. Then you have to program what you want to listen to.

As long as you understand the limitations, they work great. They are very rugged, compact, and are fine for a second or even a primary scanner. They won't do any trunking, alpha, or any of the new cool things, but they are fine for what they are desinged for.

I've cincidered getting one just to monitor Lo-Band in my truck.

Let me know if you have any questions. :)

Nice little scanner, it is a little bit awkward to program but once that
is over you will like it.
The 350A version only goes as high as 512 mhz, the newer 350C goes
up to 800 mhz (no trunking).
The only thing is if you go mobile with it, definately buy an external
speaker.

I have seen real deals on e-bay with the 350A, you could try getting
one from there. I saw a few sell for around $50 or $60.

like the posts above, its got its limitations; but if ur not needing trunking, 800mhz, or alpha tags; the 350a is the best for the buck. ive got 1 and fixing to purchase a 2nd one. i love it and recommend it to anybody.

No the it is not computer programmable. I never liked the one I had and sold it off asap. There are much better radios out there at good prices.

If I was you I would look into a trunking radio even if you have no use for trunking. The reason I say that is you will find more features such as alfa tags that you will not find in a non trunking radio. If you dont care about that then take a look at the PRO-2054 thats coming out soon.

The main advantage the 350C has over others is the size, & simplicity in operation (once programmed) I had the 700, & 2056 as "loaners" to give to a friend of mine.

He used it in his patrol car to monitor other agencies, Fire, EMS, & SHP. For him, it was perfect. It was easy to use, just hit one button for Fire/EMS, this one for other law enforcement agencies.
