Hello,

I have heard the 8600 is SDR based for above 30 MHz. Does anyone know if the R30 is also an SDR based and is it for the full receive range or also just above 30MHz? Also can it output raw I/Q like the R8600? It would be very useful for my spectrum analyses and identfying types of interference much better.

It is not SDR-based. You may want to read up on it.

R30 info
Ah right on. I did read the brochures all over and was just wanting to make sure it wasn't left out or I wasn't missing anything. Thank you for the clarification sir.

The R30 appears to be an SDR but I don't see it mentioned in the advertising. I believe its a superhet then I/Q demodulation then modes (waveforms), filter BW and other tasks are handled in software. It has firmware updates just like the R8600 and other SDRs where features can be added or changed.

Maybe I need one of these. If I can get a US unblocked version its a done deal.

That's what I was thinking too but wasn't sure. Ditto on the unblocked version, it's a necessity for what I need it for. Asian dealers on eBay are usual a regular source, I see plenty from Japan and Taiwan. I'll have to ask and see. I originally bought my IC-R20 from a Canadian radio store years ago so that's always another way too though shipping from Canada always takes forever for me for some reason.

I ordered mine from ML&S in the UK. Got it in 3 days and paid less than some of the retailers here in the US!

Looking at this link, how can I tell this is the unblocked version?

So I ordered the one from Taiwan on ebay for $630 USD this Monday while at the library. Hopefully gets here early next week. The listing said it also decodes the Digital Convenience Radio. Interesting because I never saw that on any other product description for this, I'll let you know how it goes when it arrives. I'm punching in the blocked ranges first thing.

It decodes DCR, at least that’s what the advanced manual states.
