• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is the XG-100 reliable? Why so much less than APX 8000?

So you can’t scan a trunked system from a custom scan list assigned to a conventional system, but you should be able to scan everything using a custom scan list assigned to the trunked system. From a trunked system, you should be able to scan trunked and conventional P25 and conventional analog all at once. I’m actually in the process of creating a custom scan list for this exact purpose…

Zone 2 has 14 analog conventional channels, and two talk groups from two trunked systems (state police troop that covers our area and mutual aid fire dispatch that is either Phase 1 or 33mhz) , we cannot listen to the State Police or that mutual aid TG in the zone's scan list. Harris stated it is not capable on the XG-100P, only on the XL-200. For the mutual aid, we can usually hear the call dispatched over the medics channel, which is VHF analog or on the town police VHF analog channel, but not always.

If you can do it, I am curious, because the radio shop says no, and Harris says no.

So I believe that the root of the issue is that technically, the 100P can’t scan ZONES at all. So telling them that you want to scan a mixed system zone won’t get you where you want to go. However, each SYSTEM can be assigned a custom scan list. Your custom scan list can be assigned to a trunked or conventional SYSTEM and may contain trunked TGs, P25C channels, and analog conventional channels. When this custom scan list is assigned to a trunked system, all three modes will be scanned. When assigning the same scan list to a conventional system, the trunked TGs are omitted.

The RPM help section explains this very clearly. Just search “custom scan list”. It does work with the 100P, though the more entries you have in the scan list, the longer it will take to find a conventional channel in use. I put 12 channels in the list (some trunked TGs, some encrypted P25C, and some analog) and it sometimes took greater than five seconds to land on a channel known to be transmitting. I don’t really think the number of trunked TGs affects the speed of the scan but the number of conventional channels does seem to impact the scanning speed quite a bit!
