i rely heavily on programming software to keep my 296 up-to-date with the myriad systems in my area, but sometimes i make mistakes and don't find out until i'm on the road...
for example, i may program all 33 frequencies of a trunked system as "Conventional" and have to fumble with the scanner in the car to set them all as "Trunk" frequencies.
well, with the 296's new menu-driven system for hand-programming the scanner, you can no longer easily mark an ENTERED frequency as "Trunked" by just holding down the TRUNK key.
remember the old 245? you just hold down TRUNK, and enter the freq.
the 780 - type the freq, then press and hold down TRUNK if you want it to be scanned as a TRUNKED system.
but the 296?
nope - you have to do this MENU dance where you end up losing all your previously entered information...especially the damned ALPHA TAGS!
has anyone figured out a one-key shortcut to just switching a Conventional frequency to a Trunked one on the 296?
