when they do those stings they talk about the wire and all the detectives can hear it... i was just thinking that someone out there knows of those frequencies i think there a very low frequencie but not too sure

you'd have to be very close to them doing the stakeout/sting. This alone would probably get you hassled.

You will, however, hear them running stings on tac and detective channels pretty frequently. They like the south area of the County and City mostly. I've heard some on Broadway and in the area of Florin also.

These days, you could simply find this out for yourself. Just get a radio with close call in it and go have a chat with the UC's. You know, just tell them you're lost, you don't come into the city too often, and my buddy said to meet at such and such place, and I'm 20 minutes late... etc.

I did this once, with a freq counter in my pocket. Fun. It went something like this:

Me: "Miss, can you help me? I think I'm lost. I'm looking for Monroe street. Is that around here.

UC: Sure it's just down there.

Me: "Great. So what are you two doing out here? Just hanging out?"

UC: "Yeah (laughing) we're hanging out"

Me: "Cool. Looks like fun."

UC: "So are you looking to party?"

Me: "Party? You mean like.....what?"

UC: "You know... have a good time...."

Me: "Doing what?"

UC: "You know...you and me... in that hotel room over there....a party!"

Me: "With your friend here?"

UC: "Sure, she can come too. That costs more though."

Me: "Why? They charge more for a room or something?"

UC: "No, it's because we gotta make a living!"

Me: "So what do you do?"

UC: "What do I do? What does it look like I do?"

Me: "I dunno."

UC: "Are you for real? You don't know what we're doing out here. You have no idea." You gotta picture it. Total disbelief in a halter top and mini-skirt.

Me: "You said you were hanging out. You 'hang out' for a living? How does that work?"

and so on.

This went on for a good 15 minutes. I basically played it dumber than Lloyd Christmas until they finally said if I wasn't interested in their "services" then I should leave them alone. So I did. Totally hilarious! My wife was listening to the tac channel and gave me a really dirty look when I got home...she was worried they were gonna arrest me. :twisted: I got the frequency, but that was a few years ago - I don't remember what it was. I think it was one of the standard wireless mic freq's used in broadcasting - check those. They are very short range, usually 500-1000 feet or so.

Yeah, yeah I know... that was bad form - I was hindering their investigation and all that. Bah. I think reverse prostitution stings are a waste anyway. Most of the cases are so paper thin that they get dismissed or plead down to jaywalking with intent to buy a beer. Whoopty do. I think the vice squad can find better ways to catch real bad guys.

I was right with you until the commentary on vice squads, sorry. But, Robert, you get the idea. If you want to find out the freq. they're using, you'll need some type of frequency counter or a close call/signal stalker scanner. Just listen for them running stings somewhere, and go take a drive. You might get a hit on the scanner. Personally, though, I wouldn't suggest talking to the girls...just drive thru the area. It should be continuously transmitting and you'll probably pick it up.

Hookers hanging out on the streets ruin neighborhoods and encourage other illicit activity such as drug dealing. Prostitution stings are a deterrent to that type of activity and often return a neighborhood to the residents. Keep up the stings! Plus, they're fun to listen to.

Well, yes, they can ruin the neighborhood. But most of these busts do not take place in neighborhoods. They are done on main thoroughfares, usually as a dog-and-pony show for the media's sake or because COPS is coming to town. They last a few days and then they are over and the real hookers return to business as usual. I don't really think they are that much of a deterrent. Neither are the UC's posing as dime-bag dealers to bust some shmuck who wants to score a little weed for his own use. What a waste.... What's gonna happen when that same detective is after a really bad dude and shows up to make a buy and they recognize the guy? Scary thought.

I've seen the aftereffects of these stings and can tell you concentrated patrols by uniformed officers works alot better - it's just not as "cool" as the reverse stings. But what do I know, right? I'm just a redneck from AZ. Carry on then, California.

well i was thinking they talked on frequencies that are close to mcdonalds but.... i could be wrong i know for dam sure i aint going to talk to the bait prostatutes NO WAY i think i would pee my pants and maybe a turd would come out............. but anyways are these frequencie finders legal and if so where can i buy them and what kind of prices am i looking at......and man they have been doing alot of those bait cars in sacramento its crazy... my town all they use is lojack and thats once in a great while but not bait cars....

I would think that driving through the area with a frequency counter would be best. It will be transmitting a constant signal, soyou would have a good chance of getting your counter to capture it. I am interested in finding out the same thing for Reno PD. I have listened into this stuff before and it was fun.
