I don't transmit on VHF, I just use montor VHF a bit but I'm mostly on uhf 80% of the time. Could this be doing any harm even tho I am NOT transmitting on the VHF spectrum? Btw the VHF rx is actually not bad on the UHF antenna.

A UHF antenna won't have a 'good enough' impedance match on VHF and the radio's transmitter won't like it. But if you don't transmit on VHF through that UHF antenna, the radio's receiver won't even know it's there so it shouldn't hurt anything. That UHF antenna's performance maybe 'good enough' for you on VHF, but it really isn't 'hearing' as much as a tuned VHF antenna would. I figure you know that anyway.

For receiving only it won't harm the radio. You just won't "hear" as well on VHF.
