What means it does not have the DTMF board? No keyboard? You will miss that. Or do they mean the encoder?

If you're going to be accessing repeaters or accessing IRLP or EchoIRLP ,DTMF keyboard is critical. Fifty bucks is okay for what you're getting but I'd hold out for a better rig that is DTMF equipped. From my personal standpoint, its not an operational winner.

You need to open your horizon a little and search for a new/newer radio that is not over 20 years old:lol: There are new ht's that go for $100-$130. Without CTCSS/DCS capabilities, you won't be able to access repeaters.

You can get one of the new Chinese Wouxun dual band radios for about $ 110.00 that comes with a wallwart and charger. Remarkably good unit. they make two units: a 144/440 and a 144/220 dual bander. For a few bucks more, get the 1900 MaH battery and the programming cable (still a total of under a buck and a half). Also check with some of the club members in the area for used H/T's (ICOM, Yaesu, Kenwood, etc). If you pick one up at a hamfest, make sure you have someone with you to check it out before plunking down your dinero..
