Is trunking good for railfan?

Hello, currently have the uniden bc125at, great scanner love it, but recently broke it, just uad a question im interested in getting maybe a bcd346xt off someone online and im now hearing that trunk tracker or trunking is not the best for railfanning is this true? Would the 346xt offer me the basic storing frequencies in banks amd scanning as the bc125at does? Also enjoy the dofferent colors available for the backlight, could i chamge the backlight color on the 125at aswell with software like freescan etc?

While railroads do not (as a rule) use trunking systems a trunking scanner works just fine as a conventional scanner. The 346 is a great railfanning scanner.

Some may feel that if your ONLY interest in scanners is to listen to railroad radio traffic, then spending $500-600+ on a top of the line scanner may be a waste of money, when you can spend significantly less ($100-200, maybe less if you're lucky) on a analog-only, conventional-only scanner.
It's up to your scanning interests and your budget to buy a scanner.
