Is Windsor AMB on fleetnet?

Sorry Ive got the new BCD396T & all my dusty old freq books are no longer trustworthy & I only seem to see mostly trunked freqs/systems here at RR

Ok nevermind I have found that indeed it is on Windsor Fleetnet
Next question When listening to Windsor fleetnet the ambulance (non p25) ids seem to be quite weak , while the opp dig sigs come booming in , Ive tried messing with the att , & modulation & Im not sure where they should be set or if they help with this , also the opp sig will kidof drop out sometimes at begining of the tx , is this what the p25 threshhold setting is for ?

I have a question for you about Windsor Fleetnet.How much OPP activity is there on it?

I'm using 412.887 for OPP analog ATM.

Oh...only have an analog receiver for listening to Fleetnet.Can't help you with that,although ambulance are strong & clear (including ID's).

Well the OPP are pretty active, both the windsor & essex fleetnet systems seem to have a good amount of activity with the 401 just outside of windsor as well as the surrounding rural areas of windsor , I live right beside windsor airport , and the digital opp, the audio has a real punch to it , It sounds like they are in the room with you ,but the ambulance units sound like they are talking about 3 feet away from the microphone,..the signal looks good on the meter , just the audio sounds weak , but seems I even remeber i used to have to crank the volume on ambualance calls in the old days to , so I dunno maybe its my location , or maybe they really are talking 3 feet away from the mic, did they acutally even get new radio's or are they patched into the system somehow,....
how much do u hear on 412? is that a mobile repeater freq ?

Yeah, it's fairly busy.It's a repeater.I have 3 groups to scan on one radio so I do miss some calls.

Have you tried NFM for Fleetnet?Not sure what your prob is since I don't have digital capabilities.

Oh...the volume problem sounds like an AGC setting since Ambulance is loud here.Louder than the Windsor trunked system.

ya I think it is set to narrow with att off and agc off , Ill have to play with it & see if I can make any difference, maybe its just my location

They did indeed get new radios. All ambulances in regions 1 through 3 received Motorola MCS2000 mobiles and Tait Orca portables in 2001 through 2003.

I guess thats just the way they sound then from here , its not like they are un copyable , but most units sound down pretty low & I have to crank up the volume , then turn it back down with the digital opp,....

I had the same problem when I had a BC250D a few years ago. Digital comms were MUCH louder than analog.... I sold the 250 in favour of the Pro-96 which balances the 2 much, much better. Perhaps the AGC in the 396 still needs a little tinkering and a future firmware upgrade...

I own a pro96 and im having the same problem with my audio the opp coms come in crystal clear and booming however the ambulance come in very low volume. I heard one of their radios the other day and it was load, a lot lowder than my pro96 radio. I was wondering why maybe they had their radio turned up all the way. I wish i knew what was going on, its been that way ever since i bought the 96 about 1 1/2 ago.

Do you have the AGC turned on in your Pro-96?? Check the upper right corner while receiving a digital transmission.... if it's on you will see DG... if it's off you will see Dg.

I really dont think its on our end , another guy in town here said same thing I have agc off att off and have tried diff modes , the other night I heard the dispatcher say the volume was low also , so I dunno maybe they just talk far away from noise cancelling mics or something...

You know the same thing happens here in Manitoba and mainly with the WPS AND WFPS. They are for the most part in analog and the audio does get the same way lots of times on one TG or another.

When the digital comes on from the RCMP it is loud and clear with AGC turned on. That is the only way to listen to them or it would drive you nuts with the difference in audio for them.

I don't believe the AGC feature does anything at all as far as the analog side is concerned though. I believe it only works for the digital side. At least on the Pro 96.

Yes, it is on your end. The problem is that the audio levels between different agencies is set differently for each agency. Your scanner needs to be able to amplify/deamplify all these different levels so you end up with a comfortable listening level. Unfortunately, none of the current scanners out there seem to adequately do this job.

The MOH crews would set their volume at a comfortable listening level at the beginning of the shift and leave it there. They don't have to deal with digital comm's from the OPP blasting them out of their seats. The OPP would have their volume set reasonably and they wouldn't have to deal with low audio from the MOH units.

Until a scanner manufacturer comes out with a better AGC system, you'll just have to deal with it.
