Did anything ever eventuate out of this alleged worm? There was so much hype over it but I've heard nothing since...

As I understand, there are a lot of infected 'puters, if the command is given to "call home" we shall see.

The latest thought is that the 4/1/09 date was put into the code in a way to be so easily identified as an April Fool's joke. The real trigger will be some times later after the 4/1 attention has gone away.

Now that Conficker has "activated," my enterprise network (250 workstations and 45 servers onsite and some more in colo) seems to have held up. All the servers have Symantec and the workstations have Symantec Endpoint Protection as well. This is in addition to heavy restriction with Group Policy.

Folks, what you need to remember is that the vulnerability that Conficker exploits was patched by Microsoft in October (MS08-067). Anybody with automatic updates or decent AV software should be very well protected.
